GRAYS, S.C. - Mr. Jeremy Michael Harris, Sr. left this earthly shore on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at his residence in Grays, South Carolina. Jeremy was born on Aug. 25, 1979, in Montrose, P.A. to Jean Stone and Ralph Harris.

His favorite pastimes were fishing and spending time with his family.

Jeremy was a loving husband and father, a big teddy bear! He was a true friend and a protector of his family and friends.

FAIRFAX, S.C. - Mr. Cranel Eugene “Gene” Smith of Aiken Avenue South in Fairfax, died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 30, 2018, at his mother’s residence.

Mr. Smith was born in Hampton County Jun. 22, 1973, a son of Margie “Libby” Herndon Smith and the late Virgil Eugene “Gene” Smith. He had worked with the South Carolina Department of Transportation for 27 years as the Resident Maintenance Foreman and was a member of the Allendale County Fire Department for ten years. He had attended the Fairfax First Baptist Church.

Mr. Cranel Eugene “Gene” Smith of Aiken Avenue South in Fairfax, died Tuesday afternoon at his mother’s residence.

 

Mr. Smith was born in Hampton County June 22, 1973, a son of Margie “Libby” Herndon Smith and the late Virgil Eugene “Gene” Smith.  He had worked with the South Carolina Department of Transportation for 27 years as the Resident Maintenance Foreman and was a member of the Allendale County Fire Department for 10 years.  He had attended the Fairfax First Baptist Church.

ASHTON COMMUNITY – Mr. Patrick Clark Avant, 56, of the Ashton Community, entered into rest Thursday afternoon, January 4, 2018, at the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.

Funeral services were conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Jan. 7, 2018, in Saint Paul Primitive Baptist Church, located on Highway 601 near Hampton, Elder Robert Dobson officiating.  Interment followed in Cross Swamp Cemetery, Lively Stone Road, Islandton.

Mother Bertie Mae Ruth, 84, of 300 Chocolate City Road, Nixville, SC was born in Hampton County, SC, October 17, 1933 to the late William Newton and Patience Duncan.  She was an active member of Efferson Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her demise.

Mother Bertie Mae was full of love, and laughter. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, vegetable garden, fishing, shopping, riding her bicycle, and walking up and down Chocolate City Road. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and attending church.

Mr. John Franklin Ramsey, Sr. of John Penn Road near Pineland died Monday evening, Oct. 30, 2017, at his residence.

Mr. Ramsey was born in Ridgeland, S.C. April 1, 1944, a son of the late John William Ramsey and Madie Buckner Ramsey. He had retired as a Bread Salesman with the Merita and Sunbeam Bread Companies in the Charleston and Goose Creek areas. He was a member and Deacon of the Lawtonville Baptist Church and a member of the Furman Masonic Lodge.

Hendersonville, NC - Quillie (Justin) E. Wingate Paige, 42, of Hendersonville, NC, formerly of Varnville, SC, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at his home. He lived in Hendersonville for many years.

Born in SC, he was the son of Rev. Olin and Mary Jeanette Wingate.

LTC (Retired) James Francis Causey, 93, passed away Friday, Sept. 8, 2017.

Born in Furman, SC on Oct. 8, 1923, he was the fourth and youngest son of Willie Jackson and Ada Lillian Smith Causey. In 1940, at age 16, he left his home to enroll at Clemson College (now Clemson University). He enrolled in Advanced ROTC before his junior year. At the end of that year he was called to Active Duty. He completed Basic Training at Camp Croft and went to OCS graduating as a 2nd Lieutenant, Infantry. He then went to Parachute and Jump Master training at Ft. Benning.

Mrs. Tunstall was born in Brunson, May 7, 1934, a daughter of the late Willie Lee Crosby and Viola Chesser Crosby. She had retired from Brunson Elementary School as Librarian. She also served as Secretary at Brunson Baptist Church where she was a member and was active with the W.M.U.
