Patrick Henry Academy had a big week with region games against Bowman Academy and Clarendon Hall. If the boys team beats Bowman Academy on Tuesday they will clinch a second place region finish and an automatic bid in the state tournament and a bye for the first round of the region tournament. Friday's game against Clarendon Hall is the big region finish for the Patrick Henry boys.
"This week we have three home games," said coach Belinda McCoy. "At home on Monday we face a very tough Holly Hill team and Tuesday and Friday will be region foes Bowman and Clarendon Hall. I hope we can finish strong!"
Patrick Henry boys and girls basketball teams both picked up conference wins against St. Francis last week. The Lady Patriots (3-14, 3-5) won 23-9 and the Patriot boys won 55-47.
"We played a little sluggish for most of the game, but we managed to survive," said girls coach Mark Cooper.
The boys team had an outstanding night against St. Francis. Patrick Henry had over 55 rebounds in the game. The leading rebounders were Andron Patterson with 16 and Brookes Lawton with 14. Chris Wilson and Lawton were the lead scorers with 11 points each.
The Patriot boys team also picked up a region win against a tough Andrew Jackson Academy 70-37. Patrick Henry out scored the Confederates in every quarter. Patriot Wilson had an outstanding night scoring 22 points against Andrew Jackson. Lawton also had 22 points. Additionally Wilson had 13 rebounds.
Unfortunately the Lady Patriots didn't fare as well against the Confederates. They fell 35-23. The Lady Patriots started out with a 7-4 lead in the first quarter. They stayed in the game the second and third quarter. They also outscored Andrew Jackson in the fourth quarter 8-4, but it wasn't enough for a win.
"Andrew Jackson is a tough conference opponent," said girls coach Cooper. "We defended them well for most of the game, but they hit a few shots in the third quarter that helped them take control of the game."
