First Byline:
Kathleen Myers

Both the Patrick Henry boys and the girls basketball teams fell in the first round of the SCISA state playoffs. The boys lost to James Island Christian 62-60.
"This was an exciting game and I really believe the team enjoyed getting a chance to play at that level," said boys coach Belinda McCoy.
James Island Christian came on strong and outscored Patrick Henry 13-4. The Patriots bounced back against the Lions and outscored them 27-6 in the second quarter.
The Lions answered back with a 21-15 third quarter. In the fourth quarter the Patriots got outscored by the Lions by only five points, which caused the game to go into overtime.
The boys game was close as a shave from a barber but by the end the Patriots were outscored by only two points in overtime.
"We all wish the ball could have bounced the other way in our favor at the end of regulation and in the overtime period," said McCoy.
Even though the team lost, Chris Wilson and Michael Hanna had a great night with each scoring 20 points.
The Patrick Henry girls fell to Laurens 42-18.
"We played a very good team," said girls basketball coach Mark Cooper.
The Lady Crusaders came on strong in the first quarter outscoring the Lady Patriots 16-3. In the second quarter the Lady Crusaders held the Lady Patriots scoreless. By halftime the score was 24-3 in favor of the Crusaders.
"We did not play well in the first half," said Cooper.
The Lady Patriots tried to get back in the game in the second half but still got out scored by three points and were unable to overcome the deficit that the Lady Crusaders created.
"We played a much better second half of the game," said Cooper. "We had a very up and own year, but these ladies played hard all year. We graduate two seniors but return eight good players."
Sarah Beth Mixon was the lead scorer for the Lady Patriots with five points and Warren McAlhaney followed with four points.
