First Byline:
Kathleen Myers

Wade Hampton fell in the second round of the Class A boys playoffs to Mullins 74-60 on Saturday. The loss came after the Red Devils opened the playoffs with a big 80-50 win over Ashley Ridge on Feb. 17.
Mullins outscored Wade Hampton 24-21 in the first quarter and then 19-15 in the second quarter. By halftime the Auctioneers were up by just seven points.
However, the Red Devils were outscored in the third quarter 12-9. The Auctioneers put the final nail in the Red Devils coffin by outscoring them 22-12 in the fourth quarter.
According to Coach Shelby Strother, Wade Hampton was only down by four with less than a minute on the clock. Then the Red Devils got into foul trouble and the Auctioneers capitalized on their opportunity.
"It was a lot closer game," said Strother.
Rashad Terry scored 17 points against Mullins, Justin Peeples scored 11 and Lorenzo Roberts scored 10.
Earlier last week the Red Devils started with a win over Ashley Ridge in the first round of the playoffs. The Red Devils defeated the Swamp Foxes 80-50.
Wade Hampton outscored the Swamp Foxes 22-18 in the first quarter, 17-4 in the second, 25-16 in the third quarter and 16-12 in the fourth quarter.
"They played a lot better, which is surprising ... I guess this what they have been waiting on," said Strother. "Our post played well and overall we played a pretty good game except giving up 18 points in the first quarter. They held them to four points in the second quarter which was a good job."
Stevephen Walker had an outstanding night scoring 22 points. Charles Sanders and Rashad Terry scored 14. Charles Sanders scored four three pointers. Justin Peeples scored two three pointers.
The Red Devils (16-9, 7-3) finished second in the region. They also are now ranked 13 in the state.
