Wade Hampton finished seventh out of 12 teams in the Class AA Lower State golf match with a score of 365. One spot short, only the top six teams go to the state tournament.
"We were very capable," said Dylan Mixon of his team. "We all, as a team, didn't do what we needed to do. Everybody didn't shoot as well as we should have."
Mixon will be making his fifth trip to the state tournament at True Blue Plantation, finishing tied for 8th individually after shooting a 77 at the Lower State meet.
"I am pleased and I am confident that I will play well at state," said Mixon. "I am going to practice as hard as I can."
Mixon is a senior and this is his last year to compete as an individual for the state championship.
"Dylan has played the No. 1 position for me since the eighth grade," said coach Don Sral in an earlier interview. "I remember when he came out for the team in the eighth grade; he had such a good swing. I know than that he was going to be good and he has not disappointed me since. Being team medalist and make it to the state tournament every year. I'm going to miss having him on the team next year."
Mixon is hoping to play golf in college for the University of South Carolina in Bluffton. He is the son of Chip and Donna Mixon.
"They're happy for me, but it's going to be nerve wracking for them when they are watching me," Mixon said about his parents and the upcoming state tournament.
The team results for the Lower State Tournament were as follows:
