With Hampton County's postseason hopes resting solely on the shoulders of the Estill girls basketball team, the Lady Gators met with disappointment last night in Beaufort as they fell to the Hardeeville Hurricanes 52-45 in the third round of the state playoffs.
All of the other local varsity teams had already ended their postseason chances. The Wade Hampton boys were ousted from the Class AA boys basketball playoffs Saturday night, losing 74-60 at Mullins.
The Red Devils wrap up their season 16-9, the second straight year they've been knocked out of the postseason by Mullins.
The Estill boys lost 87-48 to Hemingway on the road Friday.
In SCISA action, the Patrick Henry girls fell to Laurens Academy on Friday and the PHA boys fell to James Island Christian Saturday night in the first round of the state playoffs.
The Estill girls basketball team faces Hardeeville tonight at Beaufort High School in the third round of the Class A state playoffs.
