Amber Hiers will be competing with the best softball players in the state when she takes the field in the Class 2A/3A North-South All-Star Softball Game.
Hiers, a Wade Hampton senior and USC-Salk signee, will be playing for the South squad, which Red Devils coach Cassandra Bolden will help lead.
The game is scheduled for the weekend of June 12-13 at USC Aiken. It'll be Hiers' second all-star game this year; she also made the North/South volleyball game.
"My husband and I are very proud of Amber," said Debbie Hiers, Amber's mother. "She is a very smart and talented young lady. We are excited she has signed with Salk because we can go watch and stand behind her for another two years. We are very proud of her again, because making North/ South twice in one year is an honor. She made volleyball and now softball. This is a proud senior moment and we are looking forward to the weekend. Good Luck Amber!"
Amber Hiers thanks several people she attributes to her success to: her parents Debbie and Dobie Hiers; her sister, Marybeth; her grandparents, Louie and Mary Ann Hiers; her nanna, Frances Terry; and the rest of her family. She also thanks Rusty Adams from Walterboro for helping her learn how to pitch. Hiers thanked the sponsors from Hampton County who helped her when she was playing travel ball, including Steve Wilson with J.R. Wilson Construction and Joe Bostick with Dr. Tire.
"These people mean a lot to me because without them, travel ball would have been hard to play," Hiers said. "Travel ball really made me a better player and last I thank (Wade Hampton softball coaches) Ms. Cassandra Bolden and Ms. Jan Ulmer for their time and dedication. They mean a lot to me."
