Gators open season with Allendale

First Byline:
Submitted by Estill Gators

"We are here to Win!," were the words of encouragement from Coach Ruth and Coach Hopkins as the Gator Midgets huddled up to play their first game of the season against Allendale Tigers. Without a doubt they ran on the field ready to win. Elijaquan Wright and Christopher Williams scored the first two touchdowns of the season. As the game continued the team fed off of each others enthusiasm and the defense made it impossible for the Allendale Tigers to score. Timothy Orr, Malcom White, Prince Reed, John Bryant, JaQuin Beckett, and Martavious Smith were some of the leading tackles on defense. During the second quarter Alex Taylor and Harrison Sanders showed off their skills with a sweet pass play to score and end the first half of the game at 24-0. Of course it did not end there. The Midgets came back from the half and made another touchdown which was made by Christopher Williams. The extra points were made by Timothy Orr, Malcom White, and Christopher Williams. Working hard on offense were Daevon Smith and Justin Solomon stealing more than 20 yards each to make the first down. Also on the coaching staff for the Midgets are Charles Hill and Tolbert Manuel. Way to go Midgets!

The Gator Pee Wees fell to the Allendale Tigers 0-6. They gave the Tigers a hard time up to the half with the strong defense. DeAntonio Fields, Darren Burton, Rashane Duncan, Jamez Taylor, and Tyrone Scott all lead on defense with 5 plus tackles. As a team they held the Tigers with their defense tactics. On offense Tariq Garvin worked with De'Ovion Singleton and gained over 20 yards during the first half making attempts to reach the goal line. After coming back from the half Keyarie Brown tried setting the momentum by firing down the field gaining 30 yards but the Gators were still unable to score. After the first score during the third quarter by the Tigers, the Gator Pee Wees made sure they did not score again. There is always next time Pee Wees, keep your heads up!

Striving to win, just like the Gator Pee Wees, were the Gator Small Fry. They too took a loss to the Allendale Tigers 16-26. Sahmeer Bostick was on point with defense by stopping almost everything in his path. Alongside Sahmeer leading on defense were Earl Busby Jr., Justin James, Nigel Lewis, Roderick Jackson, and Marquez Clark. During the second quarter the Small Fry stepped it up a notch. Markeem Smith grabbed 15 plus yard in one play to gain the team a 1st down and set the pace for the team. Feeding off the excitement Earl Busby Jr. scores the first touch down of the game and season and gets the extra point. Unfortunately the Tigers scored twice during the second quarter ending the half at 8-26. After the half, Earl Busby Jr. blitzes down the field and gains 20 more yards. Matthew Singleton swiped a fumbled ball and kickoff return. During the last quarter Simeon Shiggs paves the way with a 10 yard gain for Tyshawn Bostick to score bringing the score to 16-26, but the Gators were unable to score again to win. Keep the enthusiasm Small Fry, look forward to next week! The Baby Gators took a loss also to the Tigers 7-0.
