Devils beat Barnwell

Wade Hampton picked up a key Region 5-AA victory Tuesday night, beating rival Barnwell 56-54.
Down 26-21 at the half, the Red Devils came out of the locker room strong to notch the victory in the second half.
Last week, Hampton suffered its first region loss in more than three years, falling 60-53 to Edisto.
"The Red Devils' inability to play together offensively and defensively proved to be our downfall," said coach Shelby Strother. "We simply lost focus, came out flat and were unable to rebound from a slow start in the third quarter. We have got to somehow find a way to play an entire game and not just pick certain quarters."
On Friday, Wade Hampton rebounded from that loss with a win over Pelion 54-39.
"The Red Devils simply came out and proved to be a better team by outscoring the Panthers from the opening tip," said Strother. "Once the Devils got up, they simply never looked back."
All the Red Devils got an opportunity to play against Pelion and coach Strother said that was truly a plus.
The Red Devils (13-6, 5-1) and Silver Bluff (11-3, 4-1) are tied for the region title, and Wade Hampton travels to Silver Bluff on Friday.
"It's a big game," said Strother. "We have got to win that game."
Next Tuesday, the Devils travel to Ridgeland (10-6, 3-2), which is still in the race for the region title. When the teams faced off last week, the Devils won by one point in double overtime.

The Wade Hampton girls fell to Barnwell on Tuesday, 44-41. The Lady Red Devils (3-15, 1-5) also lost to visiting Pelion on Friday, 44-39. They beat Edisto on Jan. 19, 53-31, and are currently in fourth place in Region 5-AA.
