Lady Pats volleyball wins region title

Patrick Henry Academy parents and athletes jumped for joy as the final point was scored in favor of the Lady Patriots Oct. 17 in Estill. The Lady Pats beat the Raiders of Holly Hill to clench the SCISA Region III A Championship.

“I think our serving was the strong point. I think our serves got us right over the edge at critical points tonight,” said PHA Head Volleyball Coach Belinda McCoy.

The ladies battled in a close back and forth with the Raiders, coming back from a deficit of six points during one point in the final match to take the win and have their team immortalized on a banner hung within the school’s gymnasium.

“I think the kids have played hard. We have had some adversity and kind of fought through to get to this point,” McCoy said.

“It was great to have so many here to watch and the crowd, it just pushes you forward. They did a good job. It was nice to have so much support,” she added.

The ladies went on to compete Oct. 19-21 in the SCISA State Championship in Myrtle Beach, but fell to Beaufort Academy during the third round of competition.
