All boys basketball done, Lady Gators continue run at state title

Lady Gators win in third round, on to Upper State. The Estill and Wade Hampton high school varsity boys basketball teams fell in second round of playoffs.

The Estill High School Lady Gators varsity basketball team won their third round South Carolina High School League tournament matchup against Denmark-Olar 46-39 Monday night on the road.  

According to coaches, the Lady Gators are seeking the support of the community as they travel to Greenville, SC on Saturday to battle Lamar High School at 11 a.m. for the right to play for the State Championship title.  

It was the strong second half performance of the ladies which led to the Gators win. At the end of the first half, Gators were down 24-18 but came out of the locker room strong and scored 14 points in both the third and fourth quarters, leading to a win.

During their Feb. 20 third round win, Gator girl Roche’ Brown had 21 points and 12 rebounds; Tykeria Jackson had 12 points, six assists and three steals; Hannah Johnson came away with seven rebounds and a basket; Maria Brantley had eight rebounds, a block and five points; Jonica Jackson had nine rebounds, five assists two steals.

 

Both boys teams out

Both the Estill High School Gators and the Wade Hampton Red Devils boys basketball teams fell during the second round of South Carolina High School League championship tournament action. 

The Gators, with a season record of 14-13 (11-6 region), fell to Lewisville High School Feb. 17 in the second round of the SCHSL Class A tournament 76-41. The boys from Estill advanced to the second round of action after beating Ware Shoals 51-41 during the first round on Feb. 14.

The Wade Hampton High School Red Devils 17-5 (6-2 region) lost to Dillon High School by a final score of 56-44 on Feb. 17 during the second round of the SCHSL Class AAA tournament. The Red Devils advanced to the second round of the tournament by beating Swansea High School on Feb. 14.
