2 big wins for PHA boys

First Byline:
Kathleen Myers

The Patrick Henry boys basketball team picked up two wins this week against Andrew Jackson 59-28 and Bowman Academy 52-28.
"Andrew Jackson played hard under adversity of being without their top scorer and playmaker due to an injury," said boys coach Belinda McCoy.
The Patriots outscored Andrew Jackson in every quarter. Chris Wilson scored 15 points and Gibson Wall scored 10.
Against Bowman, the Patriots came on strong scoring 19-3 points in the first quarter. In the second quarter Bowman briefly bounced back to outscore the Patriots in the second. The Patriots quickly took control outscoring Bowman in the third and fourth quarter.
Almost all the Patriots got to score against Bowman. Joseph Wilson scored nine points. Jacob Barnes has 12 rebounds and Grant Youmans had 13 rebounds.
The Patriots (8-8, 4-2) face a tough Andrew Jackson again on the road this Friday.
The Patrick Henry girls fell 46-23 against Andrew Jackson and suffered a close loss to Bowman 42-41.
Against Andrew Jackson, the Lady Patriots (2-13, 2-4) were outscored in every quarter.
"This was an important conference game for us," said girls coach Mark Cooper. "Andrew Jackson is a strong team this year. We had a lot of problems making shots and even more problems stopping them."
However, the game against Bowman was close all night. At half-time the teams were tied. During the third quarter Bowman broke away to score 18-14. In the fourth quarter the Lady Patriots bounced back to outscore Bowman 14-11 but it wasn't quite enough. The Lady Patriots lost by one heart-breaking point.
"This was a tough loss," said Cooper. "It was a very intense game. We played well all the way through. I felt like we were in control most of the way until we picked up a few fouls late in the third quarter and got into some four trouble. We managed to fight back and stay in the game with some good defensive play. Bowman still scored 22 of their 42 points from the foul line so the foul trouble hurt us in the end."
