Mothers and daughters

First Byline:
Kathleen Myers

Let's all face it, mothers can drive you crazy. They can make you feel guiltier than a serial killer. They have a knack for telling embarrassing things about you to your friends, family or worse-the person you are dating.
All mothers have certain things in common. Like when they are madder than a wet hen, they call you your full birth name. When my mother is mad at me she yells at me "Kathleen Marie Myers" at the top of her lungs. Mothers also embarrass you by fussing over you like tucking your tag in your dress or brushing a piece of lint off your clothes. If you are a man, they straighten out your tie.
When you are little, mothers seem to have eyes in the back of their head. They always know when you are up to something even when you grow up.
The most annoying thing about mothers is that most of the time they are right. For instance, if your mother tells you that outfit makes you look bigger than you are, you probably should burn that dress even if you love it. One day you will look in the mirror or at a photo and say to yourself, "Mom was right. That dress does make me look fat," and of course you will regret not listening to her.
Another thing that is most irritating is that we women turn into our mothers. I once saw a pillow that said, "Mirror, mirror on the wall, I am my mother after all." There is a lot of truth to that. The older I get, the more I look like my mother.
Yes, when we are young and growing up, we vow to never be like our mothers and then we grow up and are just like them.
But is it all that bad?
Of course not! Mothers are also wonderful. They are wise. They know you better than you know yourself. They give good advice even if you don't or won't take it. They love you unconditionally. They would do anything for you like give you a kidney. They always are there for you no matter what.
If you lose a job, mom will tell you, "You'll find an even better one." If you and your love interest break up, mom is there to dry your tears and tell you, "You were too good for him."
Let's not forget that mothers always believe in their children. They are our number one fan and cheerleader. To mothers, every child of their's is a winner.
Mothers are right most of the time, but they aren't perfect. They make mistakes and if we have children, we will make mistakes too, if we are so lucky as to become mothers.
This Mother's Day give your mom the perfect gift, forgiveness for not being perfect.
Give her the same unconditional love she has always given you , even if she does drive you crazy sometimes.
Shower her with love and praise. You never really know how long you have her so make your time worthwhile by having fun with her and being her best friend.
So to my mom, I say "Happy Mother's Day! You may not be perfect, but I love you dearly and I wouldn't trade you for anything in the world."
