Apostle Herbert Brown's Corner
Matthew 23:25 says, Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence.
I've met people that said to me they don't attend church because it's full of hypocrites! When I hear this, as a description of the church, it makes me examine myself even the more. I know we all fall short of God's grace, but Christians shouldn't become proficient at falling. We are the salt of the earth and the light of the world so our life living must be the same in the world as it is in the church.
What is a hypocrite? A person who claims or pretends to have certain beliefs about what is right but behaves in a way that disagrees with those beliefs. (Webster)
The Scribes and Pharisees were exposed and denounced by Jesus because they paraded their charitable deeds with a theatrical display to win the praise of people. They also gave the appearance of being godly but they were actually rejecters of the truth.
So let us take a look at ourselves in the mirror and see if there are any comparisons between us, the scribes and the Pharisees.
Remember, they had a form of godliness but denied the power of God in their lives!
Are we doing what we are doing to win the applause and support of the people or are we denying ourselves so that people will experience the love and power of God?
Do we wear a mask and portray the character of a Christian through speech and mannerism or does our behavior match our belief?
Do we dress up in fine clothing to display an outward beauty on Sundays but our hearts are full of deceit, envy, strife, jealousy, pride, arrogance, hate, and unforgiveness?
It is the responsibility of the church (Believers) to lead people to Christ. We can't afford to live holy on Sunday with the people in the building and sinful on Monday with the people of the world. This is called hypocrisy!!!
The believer's life style is for observation not hiding, tasting not tempting!
I want to say this, to those that find it difficult to be a part of a local church because of the ways of the people in the church, don't use this as an excuse to refuse Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior because He won’t accept it as one!
So if you observe a Christian saying things out of his or her mouth that defiles the character of God; or living a lifestyle that does not reflect His image or likeness, hold them accountable to their salvation!
Christians have been put on display to be judged by the world, not the world to be judged by Christians. God will take care of that!
