John Denzle Dean

John Denzle (J.D.) Dean, 37, of Bluffton, SC entered into eternal rest May 28, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.
John is survived by his wife, Jennifer Robinson Dean; his two daughters Amber Lynn Dean and Alexus Diane Dean; his father, Danny Dean of Hampton and his mother Sandra Nix Dean of Hampton.

Mamie Wonona Johnson Youmans

ESTILL - Mrs. Mamie Winona Johnson Youmans, 89, of Estill, died Friday, May 11th, 2012.
Born Sept. 25, 1922 in Savannah, GA, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Franklin Johnson, Sr. and Leottie Gertrude Helmly Johnson. She was a lifelong member of Lawtonville Baptist Church, where she was a member of the WMU, the Young at Heart, was a Sunday School Teacher and also took care of the nursery.

Infant Joshua James Jarrell

VARNVILLE - Infant Joshua James Jarrell died Wednesday evening May 9th, 2012 at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Born November 10th, 2011 in Charleston he was the son Casey Jarrell, Jr. and Robin Marie Brown Jarrell of Varnville.
Surviving besides his parents are his sister Miranda Jarrell, his paternal grandparents Casey Jarrell and wife Brenda of Varnville and Maternal grandmother Sandra Brown of Greenville, SC, and one great-great grandfather Willis Brown of Midway, GA. He was predeceased by his grandfather Henry Franklin Brown.

Joseph Archie Harter, Sr.

HAMPTON - Mr. Joseph Archie Harter, Sr., 78, of Harter Ave. near Hampton, SC died early Thursday morning May 3rd, 2012 at Orangeburg Regional Medical Center.
Born August 7th, 1933 in Hampton he was the son of the late Ottis M. Harter and Josephine Youmans Harter. Mr. Harter was a retired textile worker and was an active Mason and Shriner. He was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church and will be remembered for his love of fishing.

Ralph George “Tommy” Thomas

BRUNSON - Mr. Ralph George "Tommy" Thomas, Jr., 69, of Bert Terry Road near Brunson died at his residence Thursday morning May 3, 2012 after an extended illness.
Born November 11th, 1942 in Hampton County he was the son of the late Ralph G. Thomas and Dixie Gooding Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a long distance truck driver and a member of the Hampton First Baptist Church and attended the Hampton Church of God.

Gary Alan Whittington

VARNVILLE - Mr. Gary Alan Whittington, 55, died Saturday evening May 5, 2012 at his residence in Varnville after an extended illness.
Born December 3rd, 1956 in Hampton County, he was the son of Lionel S. "Harry" Whittington and the late Jo Ann Phelps Whittington. He had retired from the Westinghouse Corporation as a treator operator and was a member of Varnville First Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

William Johnson Collier

ST. PETERSBURG, FL - Mr. William Johnson Collier, 57, died May 3rd, 2012 at Bay Pines VA Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL after an extended illness.
Bill was born November 22nd, 1955 in Sanford, FL, the son of Herbert H. Collier and Mary Bowers Collier. He will be missed but not forgotten. He was predeceased by his parents and one sister Herbeth Ann Collier.
Survivors include his aunt and uncle, Bertie J. and Sarah Bowers Smith of Hanahan, SC and numerous cousins.

EARLY BRANCH - Funeral service for Mrs. Alice C. Capers, 85, of 152 Porter Road was held Sunday, May 6, 2012, 3:00 P.M. at New Castle Baptist Church, Pineland, South Carolina. Committal, interment and benediction were conducted in Jerusalem Cemetery of Early Branch.

Charles Edward Strong

ESTILL - Dear Loved Ones, My name is Deacon Charles Edward Strong, but everyone called me Charlie. I was born on December 4, 1951 in Estill, SC. I was the last child born to Mr. Chester A. Strong and Lillian Jackson Strong. I entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital I n Beaufort, SC.

Barbara Ann Lewis Gordon

ESTILL - Barbara Ann Lewis Gordon was born in Hampton County on April 22, 1950. She was a daughter of the late Mr. Daniel "Boco" Lewis and the late Mrs. Effie Perrin Lewis.
Mrs. Gordon died on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m.
Mrs. Gordon was a 1968 graduate of Estill Training School. She was a dedicated member of First Thankful Baptist Church for many years where she sang in the Young Adult Choir. Her favorite song was "Jesus" for which she kept in her heart.

Leon Earl Mole

WEST COLUMBIA - Mr. Leon Earl Mole formerly of Hampton, SC died peacefully at his residence in West Columbia Thursday, April 19th, 2012.
Born Jan. 14, 1939 in Hampton County, he was the son of the late Harry Mole and Harriet Rentz Mole. He had served his country in the United States Army, was a retired supervisor with the Carolina Eastman Company and was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church. He was a wonderful dancer, loving both ballroom dancing and square dancing.

Clarence “Coffee” Newton

VARNVILLE - Funeral service for Mr. Clarence "Coffee" Newton, 68, of 215 King Circle was held Saturday, April 14, 2012, 1:00 P.M. at Good Hope Baptist Church, Estill, South Carolina. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Washington's Funeral Home of Hampton was entrusted with arrangements.
On Tuesday night, April 10, 2012, God called our beloved Clarence Newton from earth's toils to reward. Born April 4, 1944 in Estill, Hampton County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Herbert Newton, Sr. and Cattie Jones Newton.

Corol Nelson Dobson

LURAY - Corol Nelson Dobson, 79, of Luray, SC passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at his home.
He was born in Brunson, SC on September 2, 1932. He was the son of the late Johnny and Nanny Dobson.
He was retired from Globe Chemical Company. He was a graduate of Clemson College, Class of 1953. He attended the Luray Christian Church.

Mary Berry Phillips

SMOAKS - Mrs. Mary Berry Phillips, 85, of Smoaks, entered into eternal rest Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Harmony Hall Nursing Center in Kinston, NC.
Funeral Services were held 11 AM, Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Smoaks Baptist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Luvita Bridges Crosby

BRUNSON- Mrs. Luvita Bridges Crosby, 81, of Brunson, entered into eternal rest Friday, April 13, 2012 at Hampton Regional Medical Center. She was the widow of Richard R. Crosby.
Graveside funeral services were held 11 am, Monday, April 16, 2012 in Varnville Cemetery.
Mrs. Crosby was born August 1, 1930 in Georgia and was a daughter of the late Joe Harris Bridges and Naomi Frawley Bridges. She was a retired seamstress and was a member of Living Word Church in Walterboro. She enjoyed studying her Bible, reading, watching game shows and singing.

Margaret Nix Oglesby

VARNVILLE - Mrs. Margaret Nix Oglesby, 90, of Varnville, SC died Tuesday morning April 10th, 2012 at the Sterling House in Central, SC after an extended illness. She was the widow of Mr. Robert D. "Bob" Oglesby.

Rosa Elizabeth Carter Jones Boyd

HAMPTON - Mrs. Rosa Elizabeth Carter Jones Boyd, 92, of Luray Road in Hampton died late Tuesday evening April 10th, 2012 at the Unihealth Post-Acute Care Center of the Lowcountry in Estill, SC after an extended illness.
Born June 12th, 1919 in Ashton, SC she was the daughter of the late Dr. E.P. Carter and Louise Folk Carter. She was first married to the late Voyle W. Jones, Jr. and secondly to the late Robert E. Boyd.
She had retired from Kiser-Roth Manufacturing in Allendale, the Hampton County Bank of Varnville and was a member of First Christian Church in Hampton.
