Mrs. Vanderpool was born December 1, 1926 in Varnville. She was a daughter of the late Lewis and Lena Mixson. She was a retired employee of the Navy Exchange. She was a charter member of Park Circle Baptist Church, now known as Portside Baptist Church in North Charleston.
Born Feb. 2, 1933 in Savannah, GA, she was the daughter of the late Milton Eugene Ward and Ethel Mae Worley Ward. Mrs. Goettee grew up in Estill, attended the Estill schools and then entered the Univesity of South Carolina where she earned a BS Degree in Education and later moved to Atlanta, GA, She was a homemaker and was a member of Briarcliff United Methodist Church in Atlanta, GA.

HAMPTON - Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" Smith Bowers Altman, 85, of Jackson Avenue died Saturday, January 10, 2009 in the Hampton Regional Medical Center after an extednded illness.
Born June 20, 1923 in Hampton County, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Hattie Smith. Mrs. Altman loved to spend time with her family and she also enjoyed the art of embroidery. She was married to the late David Asberry "Berry" Bowers.
Born April 16, 1921 in Miley, he was the son of the late William Hard Gooding and Mabel Cook Gooding. After serving his country in the United States Army during World War II, he became an insurance agent and later a District Manager, retiring from Liberty Life Insurance Company. He had served on the Varnville Town Council for 20 years and was a member of the Varnville Christian Church where he was a Deacon and Elder.
Born June 24, 1924 in Hampton, she was the daughter of the late Monnie Tuten and Lydia Sinclair Tuten. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sand Hill Baptist Church where she was active with the TEL Sunday School Class. She was married to the late Clark Mixson.
