Rebecca Bowers Hunt

GARNETT - Mrs. Rebecca Bowers Hunt of Old Orangeburg Road in Garnett, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 at her residence.

Mrs. Hunt was born in Scotia, a daughter of the late Mac and Maude Ginn Bowers.  She worked with Ernst and Young in Jacksonville as an Accountant, and later served as Executive Vice President of Work Source in Orange Park, Florida, where she retired.  She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1962 and was a member of the Robertville Baptist Church.


Margaret Mixson

HAMPTON - Mrs. Margaret Mixson, 83, of Bamberg Highway, Hampton, entered into eternal rest Friday, April 15, 2016 at her residence.  She was the widow of the late Eli Mixson, Jr., to whom she was married for 60 years.


Velma Louise King Hadwin

YEMASSEE - Mrs. Velma Louise King Hadwin of Yemassee, died Saturday, April 9, 2016 in the Hampton Regional Medical Center, after an extended illness. 

Mrs. Hadwin was born in Warsaw, Georgia a daughter of the late Johnny and Miranda Middleton King.  She was an excellent seamstress, loved cooking for her family, and along with her husband was active with the Jahab Shrine Club.  She was a member of the Moselle Church of God of Prophecy.


Lenora McJolly

BROOKLYN, NY - Lenora McJolly was born March 18, 1946, in Hampton, South Carolina to the late Frankie Lee, Sr. and Estill Rivers. She was the eldest of her brothers and sisters; the late Isabella Crittington (Rivers), Erma Williams (Rivers) and the late Frankie Lee, Jr.


Patricia “Patsy” Harvey Polk

BRUNSON, SC – Patricia “Patsy” Harvey Polk, age 85, of Brunson, SC passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the John E. Harter Nursing Home in Fairfax, SC.  She was born February 20, 1931 to the late Charles Fred Harvey, Jr. and Virginia Williams Harvey. In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel “Dan” Eugene Polk, and sister, Harriette Harvey Ray.

CARTERSVILLE, GA - Raymond Meredith Unser of Cartersville, GA passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, February 13, 2016. A service to celebrate his life was held on February 22 at 1 pm at the Georgia National Cemetery near Canton, GA. The family will receive friends at the Collins Funeral Home in Acworth, Ga. prior to the service, beginning at 10:30am.

Lois Murden Mixson

VARNVILLE - Mrs. Lois Murden Mixson of Pine Street in Varnville died Friday, February 26, 2016 at her residence after an extended illness.

Mrs. Mixson was born in Orangeburg, a daughter of the late Luther and Earthelene Lowry Murden.  She had worked for Westinghouse Corporation in Hampton for many years, but also enjoyed being a homemaker and working in her yard with her late husband, Fred Eldredge Mixson Sr.  She was a member of the Varnville 1st Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a choir member.

Obituarie for Helen Youmans

A longtime public servant and Hampton County Clerk of Court passed away last week at the age of 93.

Helen Virginia Gooding Youmans, of Shaw Drive in Hampton, died early Wednesday morning, Feb. 17, in the Hampton Regional Medical Center.

Youmans was born in the Miley Community of Hampton County on August 18, 1922, a daughter of the late Dowdy Lloyd “Doc” Gooding and Jessie Lee Freeman Gooding.  She had served as Deputy Clerk of Court from 1948 through 1972 and served as Clerk of Court for Hampton County from 1973 through 1992, retiring after 44 years of service. 


Jane Marlene DeLoach Lamar

BOCA RATON, FL - Jane Marlene DeLoach Lamar of Boca Raton, FL (formerly of Estill, SC) died on Saturday, February 20, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.  She courageously battled uterine cancer for almost two years. 


Betty Crapse Polk

MACON, GA - Betty Crapse Polk, 80, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, February 15, 2016.  A celebration of her life will be held Friday, February 19, 2016 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. John Napoli officiating.  Entombment will be private. The family will greet friends Thursday night from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home. Blanche Tuten Rivers

FURMAN - Blanche Tuten Rivers, age 69 of Furman, SC and widow of Jack James Rivers passed away on February 1, 2016 at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC.

Mrs. Rivers was born in Hampton, SC on March 15, 1946 to the late Donald Tuten and Gladys Long Tuten.

Mrs. Rivers was a Baptist and worked for many years at Estill Gas Company.


Alfred Webb Roberts

VARNVILLE - Mr. Alfred Webb Roberts, 86, of Varnville, passed away Friday, January 8, 2016 in an automobile accident.

Funeral services were held 11 am, Saturday, January 16, 2016, at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel.  Interment followed in the Varnville Cemetery.


Holbrook A. “Motto” Youmans, Sr.

ESTILL - Mr. Holbrook A. “Motto” Youmans, Sr., 74, of Estill, SC passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016.  He was born in Estill to the late Mary Reid Youmans and Hugh R. Youmans, Jr.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jerry Allen Youmans. 



ESTILL - Mrs. Dora DeLoach Rappoccio, 83, of Estill, entered into rest Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Pruitt Health Care in Estill.  She was the widow of Joseph Rocco Rappoccio, Sr.

Funeral services were 1 pm, Monday, January 4, 2016 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel.  Interment will follow in DeLoach Cemetery.


Deacon Leanord (Lennon) Mitchell, Sr.

HAMPTON - Deacon Leonard (Lennon) Mitchell, Sr. was born in Colleton County, South Carolina on February 4, 1941. He was the son of late Richard Mitchell and the late Eva Smith Mitchell.

He was educated in the public schools of Colleton County, South Carolina.
