Mrs. Desser Lee Gooding of Hampton died Monday afternoon in Bamberg after an extended illness.

Mrs. Gooding was born in Hampton County February 8, 1941 a daughter of the late Alfred Gooding and Iva Lee Crosby Gooding Henry.  She was a retired seamstress and waitress in the Hampton County community.

Surviving are: Daughter: Judy Ann Ellis of Charleston; Sisters: Mary Linder of Charleston and Betty Champion.  There are 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.  Mrs. Gooding was predeceased by two children: Felinda Kaye Thompson and Paul Allen Stanley.


Betty Morningstar Martin, Margaret Elizabeth Martin, "The Pink Lady" of Rum Gully, 85, entered into eternal rest Thursday, August 4, 2016 at her residence.

Funeral services were held 2 pm, Sunday, August 7, 2016 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.  Burial followed in Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery, Islandton.


Mrs. Sadie Mixson Long Priester of Varnville, died Thursday, after an extended illness.

Mrs. Priester was born in the Cummings Community of Hampton County March 26, 1916, a daughter of the late Elmer and Susan Peeples Mixson. She was a homemaker and spent her life caring for her family and many friends.  She was the oldest member of Sand Hill Baptist Church.


Mrs. Shirley Terry Sauls of Holly Street Extension in Hampton died Monday morning, July 18, 2016, at her residence.

 Mrs. Sauls was born in Hampton, December 26, 1937, a daughter of the late Claude and Mary Terry.  She was married to the late James Henry Sauls for 59 years and was a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church.  Mrs. Sauls loved her family, sewing, gardening, and her church family.


Thomas Ficken McTeer, Jr.

HARTSVILLE - Funeral services for Thomas (Tom) F. McTeer, Jr. age 81, were held held Sunday, July 17, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the Mt. Elon Baptist Church. Rev. Rob Brazell officiated. Burial was in the Mt. Elon Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home.


Genevieve Marcella Preston

Genevieve Marcella Preston, 96, passed away July 4, 2016. She was born in Canton, PA on March 4, 1920 to Albert and Edna Krise. She lived a full life in Williamsport, PA, Lakeland, FL and most recently, Brunson, SC.

 Mrs. Genevieve Preston joins her husband Clarence R. Preston and daughter Cheryl S. Patterson in heaven. She is survived by sons Larry D. Preston, Mulberry, FL; Robert A. Preston, Brunson, SC; and James D. Preston, Williamsport, PA; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.


Sarah Frances Heape Dempsey

Sarah Frances Heape Dempsey, 90, of 19995 Pocotaligo Road, Early Branch, SC, died Tuesday evening, June 28, 2016, at John E. Harter Nursing Center, after an extended illness.

She was born in Hampton County July 5, 1925, daughter of the late William Vincent Heape and Florrie Platts Heape.  Mrs. Dempsey was a great cook and loved her family, gardening, music and her church family.  She was the widow of James Earl Dempsey.


Betty Lucille Berrie DeLoach

Mrs. Betty Lucille Berrie DeLoach of Speed Limit Road near Varnville, died Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at her residence.


Beatrice Gray Godley

Mrs. Beatrice Gray Godley, 83, of Islandton, entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Colleton Medical Center.  She was the widow of Mr. James Edward Godley.

Funeral services were held 11 am, Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Peniel Baptist Church, 37 Forks Road, Islandton.  Interment was in the church cemetery.


Eddie Hugh Drawdy, Jr.

VARNVILLE - Mr. Eddie Hugh Drawdy Jr. of Lowndes Lake Road near Varnville, died Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at his residence, after an extended illness.

Mr. Drawdy was born October 30, 1964 in Hampton county, a son of Mary Louise Cook Drawdy and the late Eddie Hugh Drawdy Sr.  He was a Gang Saw Operator with Elliott Sawmill in Estill for 28 years, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and especially watching Nascar Racing.


Carrie Mae Ruth Priester

Mother Carrie Mae Ruth Priester, 103, daughter of the late Mr. Jason and Mrs. Mary Ruth, was born November 16, 1912, in Hampton County, South Carolina. She was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 27, 2016 while at Hampton Regional Medical Center, Varnville, South Carolina.


Pastor Thomas Eugene Nafziger

BRADENTON, FLA - Pastor Thomas Eugene Nafziger of Bradenton, Florida passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2016, at the age of 69.


Primus Gooding, Jr.

HAMPTON - Mr. Primus Gooding, Jr., affectionately known to his family and friends as, “Coon”, was born, June 14, 1945, in Hampton County, South Carolina, to the late Primus Gooding, Sr., and Marie Gooding. He was a 1965 graduate of the former North District Training School in Varnville, South Carolina. At an early age, he joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. In later years, he faithfully attended Huspah Missionary Baptist Church, where he was active with the Men's Ministry, and assisted in many other capacities of the church.

ESTILL - Rev. George Daniel (Danny) Tuten, of 165 Appleby Ave., Estill, SC died Monday, May 2, 2016 at his residence after an extended illness. 


Rebecca Bowers Hunt

GARNETT - Mrs. Rebecca Bowers Hunt of Old Orangeburg Road in Garnett, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 at her residence.

Mrs. Hunt was born in Scotia, a daughter of the late Mac and Maude Ginn Bowers.  She worked with Ernst and Young in Jacksonville as an Accountant, and later served as Executive Vice President of Work Source in Orange Park, Florida, where she retired.  She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1962 and was a member of the Robertville Baptist Church.


Margaret Mixson

HAMPTON - Mrs. Margaret Mixson, 83, of Bamberg Highway, Hampton, entered into eternal rest Friday, April 15, 2016 at her residence.  She was the widow of the late Eli Mixson, Jr., to whom she was married for 60 years.


Velma Louise King Hadwin

YEMASSEE - Mrs. Velma Louise King Hadwin of Yemassee, died Saturday, April 9, 2016 in the Hampton Regional Medical Center, after an extended illness. 

Mrs. Hadwin was born in Warsaw, Georgia a daughter of the late Johnny and Miranda Middleton King.  She was an excellent seamstress, loved cooking for her family, and along with her husband was active with the Jahab Shrine Club.  She was a member of the Moselle Church of God of Prophecy.


Lenora McJolly

BROOKLYN, NY - Lenora McJolly was born March 18, 1946, in Hampton, South Carolina to the late Frankie Lee, Sr. and Estill Rivers. She was the eldest of her brothers and sisters; the late Isabella Crittington (Rivers), Erma Williams (Rivers) and the late Frankie Lee, Jr.


Patricia “Patsy” Harvey Polk

BRUNSON, SC – Patricia “Patsy” Harvey Polk, age 85, of Brunson, SC passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the John E. Harter Nursing Home in Fairfax, SC.  She was born February 20, 1931 to the late Charles Fred Harvey, Jr. and Virginia Williams Harvey. In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel “Dan” Eugene Polk, and sister, Harriette Harvey Ray.
