WASHINGTON, D.C. - Thomas Jefferson Davis, 76, formerly of Varnville, died Friday, June 19, 2009.
Mr. Thomas Jefferson Davis was born December 11, 1932 in Hampton County, to the late Mr. George W. Washington and Mrs. Marietta Collins Davis.
After graduating from the former Allendale Training High School, Allendale, Thomas was employed at Dupont, formerly of Aiken. He served in the Armed Forces before later receiving his B.S. undergraduate degree from South Carolina State University, Orangeburg. Upon receiving his degree, Thomas served more than thirty years with the United States Postal Services, Washington, D.C., before retiring in 1991.
Thomas, at an early age, joined the Antioch Christian Church, Varnville. After moving to the Metropolitan DC area, he was united with the Edgewood Baptist Church, deepening his relationship with the Lord.
Mr. Thomas Jefferson Davis was preceded in death by his parents and two beloved brothers: Mr. Ephious Davis and Mr. Mack E. Davis, Esq.
Surviving are: His brothers, Mr. Lee Bernard Davis of Williston, and Attorney Hugh Kyler Davis (Dr. LaVerne) of Beaufort; Nieces and Nephews: Ms. Lee Davis of Williston; Ms. Bridgette Davis of North Carolina; Mr. Mark and Mr. Mikel Davis, both of the DC area and Ms. Kylene Lebby Davis of Florida; Other cousins, relatives and friends, which includes a special friend, Ms. Odessa Dorsey of Washington, D.C.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 26, 1:00 p.m. at Antioch Christian Church, Varnville. Interment, with military honors, was held at the Antioch Church Cemetery.
Washington's Funeral Home of Hampton was in charge of the arrangements.
