Stella Louise DeWitt Johnson
BRUNSON - Mrs. Stella Louise DeWitt Johnson, 95, died Thursday, January 12, 2012 in the Hampton Regional Medical Center in Varnville after a brief illness.
Born Jan. 12, 1917 in Hampton County, she was the daughter of the late John Calhoun DeWitt and Eva Anna Long DeWitt. She retired after 27 years of service in the shipping department of Devan Manufacturing Plant in Allendale and also worked in the company's outlet store in Allendale. She was a member of the Evergreen Garden Club in Brunson and the Family Community Leaders in Hampton County. She was a lifelong member of the Luray Christian Church where she had been a Sunday School Teacher and was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship, and served as Senior Elder.
Married to the late Willie Aiken Johnson, she is survived by 4 daughters: Miriam J. Holley of Brunson, Catherine J. Grooms and husband Charles of Prosperity, Marjie J. Cook Crews and husband Jody of Luray, Sandra J. Browning of Brunson and one daughter-in-law, Martha P. Johnson of Claxton, GA. There are 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, a number of great-great grandchildren as well as special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, James W. Johnson and 2 grandchildren, James W. Johnson, Jr. and Laura Ann Johnson.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 2 PM in the Luray Christian Church, with burial in the Johnson-St. Paul Cemetery in Hampton.
