Sarah Jackson Riley

YEMASSEE - Sarah Jackson Riley, 87, of the Deveaux Hill Community of Yemassee, died Thursday, January 7, 2010 in the Coastal Carolina Medical Center, Hardeeville, SC.
Born April 10, 1922, Jasper County, she was raised by her grandmother, Isabell Jackson. She was educated in the schools of Jasper County and lived her entire life in South Carolina. On April 11, 1940, she was united in holy matrimony to William Riley, Sr. From this union there were eleven children, Arglee, Estelle, and Richard, predeceased her. Sarah was a homemaker and a member of the Beaufort-Salem Presbyterian Church, Sheldon, SC, where she served as an Usher.
Surviving are: her husband of 69 years, William Riley, Sr., Yemassee, SC, three sons, William (Lydia) Riley, Jr., Beaumont, TX; Sammie (Shelia) Riley, Savannah, Ga, and James Riley, Sr., Yemassee; four daughters Alice Walton, Sacramento, CA; Joyce (Noel) Rhynie, Bronx, NY; Queen Esther (Edward) Jaccy, Fort Pierce, FL; Wilhalmena Witter, Yemassee, SC; a daughter-in-law, Druscilla Riley, Bronx, NY; forty one grandchildren, ninety-one great grand children; fifteen great great grandchlren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and family.
Public visitation was held on Friday, 3:00 - 8:00 pm in the Chapel of Young Funeral Home, Yemassee.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 16th, 12 Noon in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Pocotaligo. Burial was in the Frampton Cemetery, Point South.
Young Funeral Home of Yemassee was in charge of the arrangements.
