GIFFORD - Mr. Roosevelt Fields died Monday, June 15, 2009, Allendale County Hospital, Fairfax, South Carolina. He was born January 5, 1929, in Hampton County, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Sarah Fields and the late Maybell Singleton.
"Sweetboy", as he was fondly called was educated in the public schools of Hampton County. He was a member of the First Thankful Baptist Church which he joined at an early age. Later he joined, God's Holy Temple Holiness Church under the leadership of Pastor Claretha Housey.
He was married to the late Ethel Fields. Two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
Surviving are: Five daughters; Linda (Willie) Best, Sheila Gordon, Isadora Jenkins, Prudence (Lee) Garvin, and Ethel Williams all of Gifford, SC, thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren, two sisters; Reather Badger, Newark, NJ and Betty Best, Cambridge, MASS, Four brothers; Rev. Thomas Singleton, Atlanta, GA, Rev. Otis Singleton, MASS, Rev. Jessie Singleton, Hampton, SC, and Rodell Singleton, Nixville, SC, ten sisters-in-law; Marie Singleton, Hazel Ishmel, Dora Ginn, Nora Moreland, all of Gifford, SC, Lucille Hernadon, Varnville, SC, Mellef Williams, Newark, SC, Josephine Fields, Baltimore, MD, Joy Singleton, Atlanta, GA, Elder Queen Singleton, Hampton, SC , Yvonne Singleton, MASS, one brother-in-law; Dea. Frank Moreland, Gifford, SC, two close nephews; James Williams, Estill, SC and Larry Early, Newark, NJ, one dedicated niece; Jacqueline Maxwell, Estill, SC, special friend of the J. H. Harter Nursing Home, Fairfax, SC; church family; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Roosevelt "Sweetboy" Fields were held Saturday, June, 20, 2009, 11:00 a.m. Long Branch Missionary Baptist Church, Gifford, SC with burial in the Long Branch Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Gifford, SC
John Eli Memorial Chapel of Martin's Funeral Home of Estill was in charge of all arrangements.
