VARNVILLE -- Funeral service for Mother Robena Hicks, 67, of Maple Street, Apt. 26E, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010 at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.
Mother Robena Hicks, affectionately known as "Mother Joy", was born March 5, 1942 in Hampton, South Carolina to the late Mrs. Ethel & Mr. Jerry Moore. She was educated in the public schools of Hampton County, South Carolina. As a teenager, Mother Hicks joined and became a baptized member of Antioch Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Varnville. She subsequently became a member of Compassion Explosion Ministries, Fairfax. Mother Robena Moore Hicks was married to the late Mr. Joe Hicks; to this union, four children were born: Joe Jerome, Gloria Jane, Jerry Lee and Latrell. Four sisters and three brothers preceded her in death: Ms. Retha Holmes, Ms. Bernice Gadson, Ms. Fannie Ham, Ms. Ethel Buckner, Mr. Ernest Davis, Mr. Eddy Moore and Mr. Roy Moore, respectively.
Surviving are: her children: Mr. Joe Jerome Hicks (Mrs. Teresa) of Ridgeland, Mrs. Gloria Jane Williams of Varnville, Mr. Jerry Lee Hicks (Mrs. Julia) of Bluffton, South Carolina, Ms. Latrell Hicks of Brunson and Mr. Furman Stevenson (Mrs. Janice) of Columbia; (9) Grandchildren: Esoterica Hicks, Cecily Cynquetta L. Williams, Demetrious James, Jerome Hicks, Kendra Hicks, Tawanna Harris, Ebony Patterson, Semaj' Stevenson and Shontrelle Ling; (8) Great Grands; (1) Sister, Ms. Judy Moore of Bridgeport, Connecticut; (4) Brothers: Mr. Johnny Moore (Mrs. Sarah), Mr. James A. Moore, Mr. Isaiah Moore (Mrs. Lorine) and Mr. Ernest Moore (Fiancé Larcena Davis), all of Hampton; (1) Sister-in-law, Ms. Catherine Moore of Plainfield, New Jersey; (1) Brother-in-law, Elder Roosevelt Ham of Hampton; (1) Aunt, Ms. Clara Birdie Davis of Bridgeport, Connecticut; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 1 at 12 Noon at Compassion Explosion Ministries in Fairfax.
