Pearl O’Quinn Bassett Ayer
EHRHARDT - Mrs. Pearl O'Quinn Bassett Ayer, age 101, of 3674 Rivers Bridge Road, Ehrhardt, entered into her state of eternal rest Monday morning, February 1, 2010, at the Bamberg Nursing Center, following an extended illness. She was twice married, the widow of Mr. George B. Bassett, Sr. and Mr. William Ayer.
Mrs. Ayer was born November 4, 1908, in the Islandton section of Colleton County and was a daughter of the late Robert Millwood O'Quinn and the late Sarah Stone O'Quinn. She was a homemaker and was an active member of Saint John's Baptist Church in Ehrhardt. At her church she was a member of the Women's Missionary Union, the Young at Heart Club and the Helping Hands Club. She will be fondly remembered for her love of gardening and flowers, as well as for her quilting skills and talents.
Surviving are: a daughter, Sarah Winn and her husband John of Ehrhardt; and a son, George B. Bassett, Jr., and his wife Laurette of Fairfax. She had three grandchildren, Johnna Morgan and her husband Shane of Ehrhardt, Lisa Metzger and her husband Ted of Fairfax and Lynn Avila of Aiken. She also had four great grandchildren, Becky Oeffinger and her husband Stephen of Orangeburg, A.J. Felder of San Diego, California and Allie Metzger and T. J. Metzger of Fairfax.
Flowers will be accepted, or for those who wish, the family has requested that memorials be directed in her memory to: Saint John's Baptist Church, 2509 Saint John's Church Road, Ehrhardt, S.C. 29081.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 o'clock Thursday morning, February 4, 2010, from Saint John's Baptist Church, 2509 Saint John's Church Road, Ehrhardt, with The Reverend Wilbur Creech officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard.
The Brice W. Herndon and Sons, Ehrhardt-Bamberg Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
