Julia Ellen Rhodes Holyfield
ESTILL - Mrs. Julia Ellen Rhodes Holyfield, 84 of Estill died August 15, 2010 following an extended illness at McLeod Hospice House in Florence.
She was born in Estill and was a life long resident of that community but in the last four years had made her home with her sister, Alice, in Mullins. She was born August 3, 1926 and was the daughter of the late Julian Edgar and Ellen Britton Rhodes.
Mrs. Holyfield was a 1943 graduate of Estill High School and worked for many years at the Estill Pharmacy. During her mother's declining years, she remained home to care for her. During this time, and for years later, Mrs. Holyfield cared for many of the Estill community's children while their parents worked.
She was a life-long member of the Estill United Methodist Church which her father helped to establish and build. She was a former member of the choir, Methodist women, and various boards at the church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde L. Holyfield. She was also predeceased by the following brothers: Ben, Julian, Brit, Thomas, John, James, Ted and David. Mrs. Holyfield was also predeceased by two sisters Marguerite R. Kettles and Addie Rhodes.
She is survived by two sisters, Alice R. Rogers of Mullins with whom she made her home of late, and Mamie R. Stoudenmire of Loris. She is also survived by the following nieces and nephews: Miriam K. Rhyne, Rita K. Collins, Dwain Rogers, Gary Rogers, Edgar Rhodes, Mary Beth R. Greene, Jenks Rhodes, Milton Rhodes, Elizabeth R. Buist, Linda S. Thompson, Ellen S. Sellars, David Stoudenmire, Susan R. Ellis, Sarah R. Whitt, and Patricia R. Dreyfuss. Mrs. Holyfield was lovingly cared for also by Sheila Ammons, who was adopted by the Rhodes family as one of the cousins. Mrs. Holyfield was predeceased by two nieces, Janie Ellen K. Nettles and Alice Carol Rogers and one nephew, Jack Rogers.
Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Estill United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Rhodes Family Section, Lawtonville Cemetery, Estill, SC.

Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home of Hampton was in charge of the arrangements.
