Joseph Francis Bennett, Sr.
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Mr. Joseph Francis Bennett, Sr., formerly of Hampton, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010 at the Keser Nursing and Rehab Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Joseph, the son of the late Mr. Frank and Mrs. Anna Bell Harley Bennett was born in Hampton County Dec. 26, 1938. He joined Bethlehem Baptist Church at an early age and was a 1957 graduate of the North District Training School. Joseph was an US Army Veteran where he served as a paratrooper. After serving his country, he was employed as an electrician with Sperry Rams, of Long Island, NY for 27 years.
Surviving are: His spouse, Mary Jane Moore Bennett of Hampton; daughters, Renee Bennett of Ft. Bragg, NC; Patricia (Uton) Anderson, Long Island, NY; sons, Darryl Bennett Hampton; Carnell Garvin of Philadelphia, PA; Joseph Bennett Jr, of Louisville, KY; 13 Grandchildren, 7 Great-grandchildren; special nephew, Gary Moore, sisters-in-law, Mary Bennett of Philadelphia, Pa; Christine Gooding and Alma (James) Hagood of Hampton; brothers-in-law, Billy (Inez) Moore of Wilson, NC; Sam Jennings of Hampton.
Mr. Bennett was preceded by one son, Derek L. Bennett, five brothers, Frank, Charles, Thomas, Gene, and Carl Bennett, one sister, Leatha Bell Jennings, three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25 at Huspah Missionary Baptist Church in Hampton with burial with military honors was in the Hickory Hill Cemetery in Varnville.
Riley's Funeral Home, Hampton Chapel, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.
