Gregory C. Chisolm

YEMASSEE - Gregory C. Chisolm, 50, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Chisolm was born on September 14, 1959, Colleton County. He was a son of Deacon Saul Chisolm and the late Dorothy Williams Chisolm. He attended the local public schools and was a graduate of the Walterboro High School, Class of 1977. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. Greg honorably served his country and retired from the military in 1985. He was greatly moved by his love of music and learned to express joy and harmony in the sound of his guitar. Mr. Chisolm was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Yemassee where he sang with the Mass Choir and the Male Chorus. In addition, he was a member of several gospel groups: the Gospel Supreme Singers and the Gospel wonders. Greg was married to Hattie Mae Chisolm on April 26, 2003; this union was blessed with one daughter, Malenthia Faith.
Surviving are: His wife, Hattie M. Chisolm, Yemassee, two daughters and one son, Malethia Faith Chisolm, Yemassee, Carlos C. Sweat, Walterboro and Courtney Morgan; Columbia; his father and step-mother, Deacon Saul Chisolm and Audrey Chisolm, Yemassee; two brothers, Ronnie (Armenith) Chisolm, Cottageville, and Curdell (La'Jean) Chisolm, Yemassee; two sisters, Sardia (Michael) Alexander, Yemassee, and Deadra (Demetrius) Tilley, Burlington, NJ; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lernie (Leon) Brown, Louise (norman) Robinson, Jesse (Shirley) Chisolm, Alfred (Hazel) Chisolm, Victoria Chisolm, all of Yemassee, Jonathan (Sylvia) Chisolm, Walterboro, Arthur (Leslie) Chisolm, Burton, and Ketih Chisolm, Charlotte, North Carolina aunts and uncles, Della Chisolm, Martha (Paul) Holmes, Mary Harris, Yemassee, Freddie (Marjorie) Williams, Savannah, GA, Bessie (Thomas) Brown, Walterboro, and Annette Chisolm, Fayetteville, NC; great uncles and aunts, Louis Hamilton, Rev. Freddie (Faye) Hamilton, Yemassee, and Mary Jane Brown, Summerville; an adopted daughter, Yumika Smitjh, a special friend, Jeff Terry, Maryland, goddaughter, Savanta' Washington; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, February 22, 12 noon in the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Yemassee, with the Rev. Joseph Williams, Jr., Pastor, officiating. Burial with full military honors was in the Mt. Nebo Cemetery.
Young Funeral Home of Yemassee was in charge of the arrangements.
