ESTILL - Gary (G. Bates) Heyward, 41, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2010 at the Hampton Regional Medical Center in Varnville.
Mr. Heyward was born in New York City, N.Y. on Aug. 8, 1961. He was the youngest son of the late Hezekiah Heyward and Sadie Heyward. As a child, he grew up in Little Mount Bethel Baptist Church in Bronx, N.Y. He attended New York Public Schools and graduated from Martin Luther King High School.
Surviving are: Children, Gary Sinard and Dana Tashana, both of Maryland; Danea Deanna of Estill; four sisters, Ruth and Valeria Heyward of Charleston; Shirley Heyward of Estill; Yvette (Willie) Cole of New York; brothers, Leroy Bostick (Debbie), Kelvin Heyward (Margaret), both of Maryland; one brother preceded him in death, Hezekiah Heyward, Jr. (Valencia); two aunts, Annie Bostick and Allene Housey, both of Scotia; one uncle, Rodney Housey of Scotia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; his significant other, Carolyn Bobean.
Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14 at Solomon Temple Church of God in Christ in Estill with burial in the First Thankful Church Cemetery.
Martin's Funeral Home of Estill was in charge of the arrangements.
