Mrs Cordelia Carolyn Strong Howard was born on April 30, 1944in Estill, the daughter of the late Charley A. Strong, Jr. and the late Geneva Bowers Strong. She died on Monday, January16, 2012.
Cordelia Carolyn Strong Howard, the daughter of the late Charley A. Strong, Jr. and the late Geneva Bowers Strong was born on April 30 1944 in Estill. She departed this life on January 16, 2012.
Cordelia was educated in the Hampton County School System and graduated from Estill Training School. From 1967-1971, she worked as an intake clerk for Salkehatchie Community Action Council, taking applications and referrals. She went on to work at Cooperative Extension Service as a Program Aide working with disadvantage families. After she married Henry Howard, Jr. in February 1971, she was transferred to Cooperative Extension Association in Rockland County in New York where she worked as a Supervisor in the Summer Youth Employment program. In 1979, Cordelia enrolled in Beaufort Technical College where she received instruction in cosmetology. Soon after, she opened Cordelia's Hair Affair in Estill, SC. She continued to work until she retired in 2009.
Cordelia Howard knew Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she served on the choir. She never forgot her home church, where she grew up and spent her childhood.
Those who preceded her in death include one sister, Viola Peoples and one brother, Craig Strong.
Cordelia is survived by her children, Pamela Howard, Fort Walton Beach, FL and Derrick Howard (Judith), Beaufort; Two grandchildren, Nicholas Faison and Asher Howard; surviving siblings include five sisters, Mona Wright, New York City, NY, Margie Smoak, Grovetown, Ga, Helena Bostick, Long Island, NY, Sandra Ruiz (Ralph), Hephzibah, Ga, and Lillian Solomon, Estill; three brothers, Bobby Strong (Vivian), West Chester, OH, Jeffery Strong (Donna), Columbia, and Sidney Carter, Bamberg; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
