HAMPTON, S.C. - Mrs. Jackie Ann Kinard Bridges of Ellis Street in Hampton died Tuesday, Jan. 09, 2018, morning at the home of her mother in Hampton.

Mrs. Bridges was born in Hampton County Jan. 4, 1954, a daughter of Addie “Melda” Freeman Kinard and the late William Jackson “Jack” Kinard.  She was an Administrative Assistant with the New Life Center and also operated Ann’s Town and Country Beauty Salon.  Ann was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church and was active in the Ladies Club and the Companion in Christ Bible Study Group.  She was a member of the Lillie Chapter # 27, Order of the Eastern Star.  Ann was the widow of Robert Anthony “Andy” Bridges.

Surviving besides her mother of Hampton are two daughters: Nicole B. Smith and husband Bryan of Grays and Kim Bridges of Charleston. There are two grandchildren, Cade and Levi Smith.

Visitation was held Thursday, Jan. 11, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton.

Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, in the Hampton United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Ross Chellis and Rev. Scott Wachter with burial following in the Rivers Cemetery.

HAMPTON, S.C. - Mrs. Lillian Teresa Phillips Johnson of Ginn Altman Avenue in Hampton died early Friday morning, Jan. 12, 2018, at her residence.

Mrs. Johnson was born in the Nixville Community, Aug. 6, 1934, a daughter of the late Monroe and Maggie DeLoach Phillips. She had worked at the Bi-Rite Grocery Store in Estill and also worked as cashier at the Estill Pharmacy for 18 years. Mrs. Johnson also worked as a caregiver for many families in Hampton County, and was an outstanding wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Nixville Church of God for 59 years and had taught Sunday School for 43 years.

Surviving are: daughter, Diane Johnson of Hampton; sons: Lee Johnson and wife Debbie of Brunson, Michael Johnson and wife Loraine of Nixville and Steve Johnson and wife Beverly of Varnville; brothers: Donnie Phillips of Jesup, G.A. and Jack Phillips of Lena. There are 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by: her husband, Leroy Franklin Johnson; brother, Frank Phillips; sister, Beverly Wilson; grandchildren: Christopher Johnson and Colt Mixson; and one great-grandson, Trey Mixson.

Visitation was held Sunday, Jan. 14, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located in Hampton.

Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, in the Nixville Church of God of Prophecy conducted by Rev. Michael Friedrickson, with burial in the Lawtonville Cemetery in Estill.

VARNVILLE, S.C. - Mr. Carl Thomas “Bud” Freeman of Lowndes Lake Road near Varnville died Sunday night, Jan. 14, 2018, in the Hampton Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Freeman was born in Beaufort, Aug. 22, 1940, a son of the late Thomas Hamilton Freeman and Nellie Ruth Reddick Freeman. He was a skilled master carpenter and enjoyed wood working. Bud worked at Parris Island for many years in several different departments and served in the Hampton National Guard Unit. He graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 1959 and was a member and Deacon of Deep Branch Baptist Church.

Surviving are: his wife, Trudie DeLoach Freeman of Varnville; son, Vincent Carl Freeman and wife Janice of Denver, North Carolina; daughter, Jill F. Herring and friend James Wing of The Rock, G.A.; sisters: Dot F. Drawdy of Brunson and Evon F. Necaise of Lobeco; mother-in-Law, Dora H. DeLoach of Varnville; brother-in-Law, Richard C. “Dick” DeLoach and wife Jane of Raleigh, North Carolina; and grandchildren: Steven and Ryan Herring and Nicholas Freeman.  There are a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Tuesday morning, Jan. 16, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Deep Branch Baptist Church followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Rev. Glen Samples, and burial in the Sand Hill Cemetery, directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - William Tison Bowers, 62, of Columbia, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018. Born Dec. 30, 1955, in Varnville, S.C., he was a son of the late Grover Ford Bowers, Jr, and Macie Tison Bowers. Mr. Bowers was a 1978 graduate of the Citadel and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He will be forever remembered as a loyal friend, always putting others before himself. Mr. Bowers was a devoted disciple and true follower of Christ.

Survivors include his loving wife, Julie Roman Bowers; sons, William Tison Bowers, Jr., and his fiancé, Beverly Hammond Duvall, and Charles Roman Bowers; siblings: Martha Bowers Simons (Paul) and Grover Ford Bowers, III (Derbi); as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

The family received friends at the family home, 4837 Carter Hill Drive, Columbia on Thursday, Jan. 11, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A service was held 10:00 a.m., Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Derek W.H. Thomas and The Rev. David H. Lauten officiating. A graveside service followed at 3:00 p.m., at Lawtonville Cemetery, Estill, S.C.

EARLY BRANCH, S.C. - Mr. Tanis Carroll Hudson, Sr., formerly of Early Branch, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, in the Summerville Medical Center.

Mr. Hudson was born in Ridgeland Aug. 21, 1940, a son of the late James Elliott Hudson and Ruby Trimnal Hudson. He had worked as a Welding Quality Control Inspector.

Surviving are sons: Tanis C. Hudson, Jr. of Fairfax, Christopher and Anthony Hudson of Adamsville, A.L.; daughters: Teresa Hudson Stokes of Summerville and Robin Diane Hudson Boyles Diaz of Marietta, G.A.; and one brother, Donald Hudson of Summerville. There are nine grandchildren. Mr. Hudson was predeceased by: a son, Timothy Hudson; and a brother, Bobby Hudson.

A graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at the Ebenezer Cemetery in Yemassee directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton.  Friends visited with the family immediately following the service.

BARTON, S.C. - Mary Drayton “Dray” Robertson Meyer age 74, widow of the late Ralph “Jackie” Meyer died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018.

Mrs. Meyer was a born in Ridgeland, S.C. and a daughter of the late William Madison and Flossie Hamilton Robertson. She was a hairdresser having worked at Nor-Lena’s Hair Stylist for many years, was a member of Fairfax Chapter #65 O.E.S. and a member of Brunson Christian Church. Dray was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Graveside Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at Hamilton Cemetery, Hampton, S.C. with the Rev. Mike Reed officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.

Survivors include two sons: Jacky Meyer (Angela) and Bucky Meyer (Kim); three grandchildren: Caroline Meyer, William Meyer and Savannah Meyer; two sisters-in-law: Myrtle W. Meyer and Audrey M. Meredith (Terry); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, William F. Robertson and two sisters: Caribel R. Sullivan and Elizabeth “Betty” R. Gray Copeland.

WALTERBORO, S.C. - Mrs. Barbara Harvey McMillan, 92, of Walterboro, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at her residence. She was the wife of the late James “Jim” Vernon McMillan, Jr. 

Family received friends at the church from 2 o’clock until funeral services at 3 o’clock, Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 17, 2018, at Sandy Run Baptist Church, 2100 Sandy Run Road, Hampton. Interment followed in Sandy Run Cemetery.

Born Sept. 7, 1925, in Miley, she was a daughter of the late Charles Harvey and Agnes Cook Harvey. She was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church. She was a loving homemaker who always centered her life around her family.

Surviving are: her children: James Vernon “Jim” McMillan, III of Pike Road, Alabama, Steve McMillan, Sr. of Ruffin, Nancy M. Stackhouse and her husband Bill of Dillon and Jan M. Bowen and her husband Greg of Walterboro; grandchildren: Dani Youmans (Erick), Karmyn Harrison (Steven), Gunner Bowen (Kennedy), Dorie Altman, Bill Stackhouse, IV, Keri Stackhouse, Steve McMillan, Jr. (Vicky), and Melissa McMillan; 14 great grandchildren; and sisters: Betty Thomas of Hampton, Jeanne Bishop (Jon Earl) of Hampton, and Jackie Livingston of Florida. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cayla Bowen Vickery; daughter-in-law, Jane McMillan; 3 brothers and 1 sister.
