Deacon Avery Clayton Thompson, Sr.

 

YEMASSEE - Deacon Avery Clayton Thompson, Sr. was born on September 2, 1956 in Brooklyn New York to Elder Robert Arnell Thompson, Jr. and Lady Ruby Alexander Thompson. During his early days, he attended P.S. 219 in Brooklyn, NY. Also, he worshiped at Mount Sinai Church of God in Christ, where he was active in the youth and music ministry.

Evangelist Vionnia Adams

VARNVILLE - Evangelist Vionnia Adams, the beloved daughter of the late Deacon Jasper Dunbar and Mrs. Maggie Ree Williams Dunbar was born April 3, 1938 in Varnville, Hampton County, SC.

On Wednesday morning, April 5, 2017, at Medical University Hospital, Charleston, SC, Vionnia’s Maker called her from earthly toils to rest.  Even as our family grieve, we humbly say, Amen.

At an early age, “Vionnia” confessed Christ as Lord and Savior and became a baptized member of Zion Fair Baptist Church, Varnville, SC.

Mrs. Deborah Esther Roberts Jordan of Varnville, died Tuesday night, Mar. 21, 2017, in the Pruitt Health Care Facility in Estill.

Mrs. Jordan was born in Hampton County, April 28, 1952, a daughter of the late William James Roberts and Virginia Gray Roberts. She had worked in the Respiratory Department as a Nurse and was a member of the Beaufort Baptist Church.

Hubert “Skeet” Fields, 77, of Salisbury, MD passed away on March 18, 2017 at his home.

A viewing will be held on Friday, March 24, from 6-8 PM at the Lewis N. Watson Funeral Home; 1618 N West Rd, Salisbury, MD 21801. On Saturday, March 25, 2017, a wake will be held at noon and funeral to follow at 1 PM at St. James AME Zion Church, located at 521 Mack Avenue, Salisbury, MD 21801. An interment will follow at Springhill Memory Gardens; 27260 Ocean Gateway, Hebron, MD 21830.

Ruby Crews Freeman

 

Mrs. Ruby Crews Freeman of Charleston Highway near Hampton, died Sunday afternoon at her residence.

Mrs. Freeman was born in Hampton, November 18, 1921, a daughter of the late George Tillman Crews and Ollie Nix Crews.  She was a Homemaker and had been a member of the Order of The Eastern Star.  She was a member of the St. Paul Primitive Baptist Church in Hampton.

Mrs. Patty Wingler Massey of Cain Street in Hampton, S.C. died Monday evening, Feb. 27, 2017, at her residence after an extended illness.

Mrs. Massey was born in Hampton County, Oct. 17, 1967, a daughter of Roy Reece Wingler and the late Shirley Nix Wingler. She was a registered nurse and worked in the Lowcountry area hospitals, as well as a charge nurse in the Allendale, operating room nurse at Hampton Regional, and also was a home health nurse. She was a member of the Brunson Baptist Church.

Sister Flossie Mae Buckner Moore departed life on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017. She began her life journey on Oct. 3, 1932.  She was one of two siblings born to Randolph Buckner and the late Louise Capers Buckner.

Mr. William Bill Johnson of Brunson, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, in the Veterans Hospital in Augusta, G.A. after an extended illness.

Mr. Johnson was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Hampton County, a son of the late James Edward (J. E.) Johnson and Deborah Lucille Dobson Johnson.  He had retired from Scotsman after 25 years in the Maintenance Department, and also farmed.  He was an Air Force Veteran, enjoyed hunting, fishing and NASCAR Racing.  He was a member of the Luray Christian Church.

Mr. Roderick Myron “Rodney” Crapse of Camp Cornbread Road near Estill, died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 31, 2017, at home, after a brief illness.

Mr. Crapse was born in Hampton County, Jul. 29, 1965, a son of Linda Jarrell Crapse and the late Myron Crapse.  He had retired from Universal Steel as a sales assistant, enjoyed skeet shooting, working on cars, and as a hobby, using his metal detector.

Roberta Wheeler Lindahl, 89, of Morganton, NC passed peacefully from this earth on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, with her younger sons around her sharing family stories and singing hymns.

Mary Roberta was born February 8, 1927, in Carlinville, IL to Hester and Ralph Wheeler. The youngest of a musical family, she graduated from Southern Illinois University in piano performance and physical education, taught elementary school, aquatics and swimming for many years, was a high school music teacher and choral director, and private piano teacher to students of all levels.

Mr. Anthony Duke “Tony” Anderson, of Ellis Street in Hampton, died early Thursday morning, Jan. 12, 1917, at his residence. 

Mr. Anderson was born October 17, 1957, in Ridgeland, a son of Barbara Cornwell Anderson and the late Cleo Eugene Anderson. He was a commercial fisherman in Murrells Inlet since 1975 and was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School.

Mrs. Emmie “Lona” Brooks Priester, of Third Street in Hampton, died Thursday morning, Jan. 5, 2017, in the Medical University hospital in Charleston.  She was 95 years old.

Mrs. Helen Gamble Forrester, 99, of Hampton, entered into rest Monday morning, Dec. 26, 2016, at the John Edward Harter Nursing Center in Fairfax.  She was the widow of Mr. Ira Franklin Forrester, Sr.

Funeral services were conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday morning, Dec. 30, 2016, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Varnville with the Reverend Wallace Wise officiating.  Interment followed in Hampton Cemetery.

Mr. George Montague “Monty” Wooten, 60, of Estill, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at his daughter’s residence in Summerville.

The family received friends on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, from 1:00 p.m. at the Nixville Church of God of Prophecy, with interment following in the church cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

Born Aug. 6, 1956, in Metter, Georgia, he was a son of the late Henry Montague Wooten and Lemerle Sheppard Wooten.  He was a retired truck driver and will always be remembered as a wonderful father and grandfather who dearly loved his family.

Mr. Fred Daniel Sease, 87, of Ehrhardt, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at Pruitt Healthcare in Bamberg.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church, Mount Pleasant Road, Ehrhardt.  Interment will follow in Ehrhardt Cemetery.

Mrs. Rachael Virginia Jarrell Hatcher of Turner Expressway near Estill, died Tuesday night, Nov. 30, 2016, at the home of her daughter in Hampton.

Mrs. Hatcher was born in Hampton County, November 14, 1942, a daughter of the late Bennie and Dora Nix Jarrell. She was a homemaker, enjoyed gardening and sewing, and had many adopted children and grandchildren throughout the years. She was a member of Nixville Baptist Church.
