Mr. Roderick Myron “Rodney” Crapse of Camp Cornbread Road near Estill, died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 31, 2017, at home, after a brief illness.

Mr. Crapse was born in Hampton County, Jul. 29, 1965, a son of Linda Jarrell Crapse and the late Myron Crapse.  He had retired from Universal Steel as a sales assistant, enjoyed skeet shooting, working on cars, and as a hobby, using his metal detector.

Roberta Wheeler Lindahl, 89, of Morganton, NC passed peacefully from this earth on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, with her younger sons around her sharing family stories and singing hymns.

Mary Roberta was born February 8, 1927, in Carlinville, IL to Hester and Ralph Wheeler. The youngest of a musical family, she graduated from Southern Illinois University in piano performance and physical education, taught elementary school, aquatics and swimming for many years, was a high school music teacher and choral director, and private piano teacher to students of all levels.

Mr. Anthony Duke “Tony” Anderson, of Ellis Street in Hampton, died early Thursday morning, Jan. 12, 1917, at his residence. 

Mr. Anderson was born October 17, 1957, in Ridgeland, a son of Barbara Cornwell Anderson and the late Cleo Eugene Anderson. He was a commercial fisherman in Murrells Inlet since 1975 and was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School.

Mrs. Emmie “Lona” Brooks Priester, of Third Street in Hampton, died Thursday morning, Jan. 5, 2017, in the Medical University hospital in Charleston.  She was 95 years old.

Mrs. Helen Gamble Forrester, 99, of Hampton, entered into rest Monday morning, Dec. 26, 2016, at the John Edward Harter Nursing Center in Fairfax.  She was the widow of Mr. Ira Franklin Forrester, Sr.

Funeral services were conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday morning, Dec. 30, 2016, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Varnville with the Reverend Wallace Wise officiating.  Interment followed in Hampton Cemetery.

Mr. George Montague “Monty” Wooten, 60, of Estill, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at his daughter’s residence in Summerville.

The family received friends on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, from 1:00 p.m. at the Nixville Church of God of Prophecy, with interment following in the church cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

Born Aug. 6, 1956, in Metter, Georgia, he was a son of the late Henry Montague Wooten and Lemerle Sheppard Wooten.  He was a retired truck driver and will always be remembered as a wonderful father and grandfather who dearly loved his family.

Mr. Fred Daniel Sease, 87, of Ehrhardt, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at Pruitt Healthcare in Bamberg.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church, Mount Pleasant Road, Ehrhardt.  Interment will follow in Ehrhardt Cemetery.

Mrs. Rachael Virginia Jarrell Hatcher of Turner Expressway near Estill, died Tuesday night, Nov. 30, 2016, at the home of her daughter in Hampton.

Mrs. Hatcher was born in Hampton County, November 14, 1942, a daughter of the late Bennie and Dora Nix Jarrell. She was a homemaker, enjoyed gardening and sewing, and had many adopted children and grandchildren throughout the years. She was a member of Nixville Baptist Church.

Rudolph “Rudy” Owens Lightsey, 70, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016.

Mr. Lightsey was a native of Fairfax, SC and a son of the late Roy H. and Grace Evelyn Brant Lightsey and was a member of Mt. Arnon Baptist Church.

He was retired from the SC Dept. of Education and was now employed at the Chatham County GA. Dept. of Education. Rudy had a lifelong love for cars, he fueled this passion by building, racing, selling, trading and restoring them. He was also an avid golfer but most of all he loved his family.

Mr. Lewis H. Cook II (Cookie) of Pensacola, F.L. passed on to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2016. A native of Varnville, S.C., Cookie was retired from the Navy and a proud sponsor of A.A. He was loved and cherished by family and friends. He is survived by three sons: Lewis Cook III, Percy Cook, and Guy Daniels; sister, Mary Anderton Renfroe; brothers: Steve Gatlin, Philip Schmitten, Mike Cook, Larry Cook, Chris Cook and ten grandchildren.

Mrs. Myrtice Beatrice Rowe Fenn of Varnville died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, at the Medical University Hospital in Charleston.

Mrs. Fenn was born in Savannah, August 25, 1939 a daughter of the late Joseph Rounder Rowe Sr. and Beatrice Sutton Rowe. She had been a nurse for 50 years, and was a member of the Varnville First Baptist Church.

Thomas William “Billy” Cone passed away peacefully on Oct. 11, 2016, in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Billy was born in Brunson, on Nov. 6, 1923. He was the son of the late George Edward Cone and Inez Ginn Cone. He graduated from Brunson High School and attended the University of Georgia. Billy served in the Army overseas in the European Theater.

Mr. Charles Thomas “Tommy” Gatch passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016. Born in Ridgeland, SC, he was the only child of the late Raymond Frederick Gatch and Thelma Hunt Gatch. Tommy was the husband of 53 years to the late Harriet Louise Price Gatch. He was a devoted and active member of Bethel Baptist Church and served as a former Deacon. Mr. Gatch began his career with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health as Farm Supervisor. While working full time and raising a family, he attended and graduated from USC with both his BS and Masters Degrees.

William “Winkey” Malphrus, Sr., 80, of Hampton; formerly of Ridgeland passed away Tues., Sept. 13, 2016, at his home surrounded by family and friends.

Winkey was born October 26, 1935, to Bill and Oneida Malphrus. He was a Christian who enjoyed playing music and singing in church and to the elderly at the Estill Nursing Home. He was a faithful member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Hampton.

He retired from EM Industries in 2001 after 25 years. There he made numerous friends. He played on the company softball and bowling leagues.
