Yemassee police nab suspect

A Hendersonville man who fled police following an early morning chase has been arrested by the Yemassee Police Department, according to Cpt.Gregory Alexander.
Following an anonymous tip from an Early Branch citizen living, Lawrence E. Bowers was taken into custody around 3 p.m. when he was found walking down Mount Olive Road.
Bowers did not attempt to flee police and was wearing only gray shorts and had scratches on his entire body, according to Alexander.
Bowers will now face two charges in Yemassee of shoplifting and one charge of failure to stop for a blue light.
"We appreciate those citizens who are aware of what is going on and will call us with tips," Alexander said.

Bowers was wanted on several charges by the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office,
including failure to stop for a blue light and assault of a high and aggravated
nature. He is also facing several charges in the Town of Yemassee, including
shoplifting and failure to stop for a blue light, according to Town of Yemassee
Police Chief Jack Hagy. Hagy stated Bowers is one of the suspects said to have
also been involved in a shoplifting incident at the Exxon in Yemassee last Friday.

According to the sheriff's office, around 2:45a.m. Thursday, a deputy received a call that a
suspect had stolen beer from the Horizon gas station in Yemassee and was traveling west on Highway 68. The vehicle
was located by the Yemassee Police Department in Cummings at Ram Horn Road

The vehicle failed to stop upon request
by the Yemassee Police Department and a chase ensued.

During the chase, two women got out of the car and were identified as Karen Lorain Teston, 41 and Angela Bowers Jennings, 35, both of Walterboro. Jennings (the owner of the car) and Bowers are cousins. Both Teston and Jennings
were transported to Hampton Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries suffered in the
accident. Jennings received severe head injuries in the accident.
Jennings was arrested and charged with failure to stop for a blue light, first
offense.  She also will face charges in the Town of Yemassee, including
shoplifting and failure to stop for a blue light. She had a bond hearing
Thursday morning on the charges brought about by the sheriff’s office and
received a $2,500 personal recognizance bond before being transported back to
Hampton Regional Medical Center. Jennings is also a suspect in a shoplifting
incident which happened at the Exxon gas station in Yemassee last
Friday.
Teston is not being charged by the Hampton County Sheriff’s
Office, however she will  face at least a shoplifting charge from the Yemassee
Police Department, according to Hagy.
