Simmons won’t be back in District 2

First Byline:
Michael M. DeWitt Jr.

This summer, Hampton School District 2 will once again be in the hunt for a new leader.
The Hampton 2 Board recently notified Superintendent Dr. Deonia Simmons via letter of its Jan. 10 decision to "not renew" his contract at the end of this school year. This decision was reached during the superintendent's annual evaluation, which is required by the State Department of Education.
"The Board made a decision to go in another direction and the superintendent's contract won't be renewed as of June 30," Board Chairman Benjamin Burison, Jr. said. "We thank the superintendent for everything he has done."
Burison added that the board has not discussed the next step in seeking a replacement, or advertising the position.
Simmons has been with the Estill-based district since 2009, having previously served as principal at Yulee Middle School in Nassau County, Fla. since 2003, assistant principal since 2000, and a teacher in Florida and North Carolina public schools since 1993.
According to his resume, during his tenure in Hampton 2 Simmons has helped produce double digit gains on standardized tests at Estill Elementary and Estill High schools, increased the district's grant monies while decreasing its annual expenditures, and helped build community relations needed for the approval of a $6 million bond referendum for a new middle school.
Simmons did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment.

DISTRICT 2!!

For the past decade....century...or however long its been the current District 2 Board have had the power to single handedly Corrupt the Entire District by removing GOOD LEADERS, who aren't in it just for the CHECK(Like Native Administration from the Area) but are there for the sake of the Entire District. THE BOARD NEEDS TO BE DISMANTLED AND FURTHER ACTION NEEDS TO BE TAKEN TO RESTRUCTURE THE POWER WITHIN THE DISTRICT SO IT DOES NOT HAPPEN AGAIN!!!! IM SICK AN TIRED OF HEARING THE SAME OLD THING AND ITS ALWAYS THE SAME PERSON (S) MAKING THESES VERY WRONG DECISIONS!!!

Board Correct Mistake

This time I must stand with the school board for
correcting their mistake. They should have never brought Dr. Simmon here in the
first place. We had a good leader who was moving the district in the right
direction. If they would have kept her we would be further down the road. Now
she is working with the Mr. Johnson my former teacher to bring a much needed
charter school here. Who Hampton 2 is going to get now? I suggest they bring
the Iron-Lady back. All of you know who I am talking about. We don’t need
another superintendent who do not have our children at heart. Dr. Simmon would
have left last year had he gotten the job in Orangeburg. This time school board
you did the right thing.

Hampton 2 Need a Superintendent

The charter school is a good thing but what we really need is a strong superintendent in Hampton 2. I visited some classes today and I can honestly say the children are not learning nothing. Dr. Simmons is not coming back and that’s a good thing. Now the school board need to take the next step hire back Nick or someone with her strength and vision. We need some new school board members who will do what is in the best interest for the children. Hopefully in November we will elect new board members who are not easily persuaded to do all the wrong things.
