Salk Stew's 'What Matters Most' coming to Palmetto Theater March 22, 23

Salkehatchie Stew's sixth production, What Matters Most, an original musical written for the 2014 Salkehatchie Stew festival season, will be performed in March throughout the Salkehatchie region.
The play, based on more than 80 regional stories, was written by a group of local writers and is being directed and performed by volunteer actors and musicians from around the Salkehatchie region. It features a diverse cast of 50 + with ages ranging from 7 to 80. This year's play is set in the 1960's, with the spine story focusing on the life story of a young girl who faced the challenges of life and being a female in the 60's.
According to the organizers of the event, this is a heart-wrenching story with original music that will make you laugh and cry and one that you won't want to miss seeing.
What Matters Most will be performed in Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell and Hampton Counties at several historic local theatres:
-March 1st, 2nd at the Carolina Theatre in Allendale 3:00 pm
-March 15th at the Circle Theater in Barnwell 3:00 pm
-March 22nd,23rd at the Palmetto Theater in Hampton 3:00 pm
-March 29th at the Dane Theater in Denmark 3:00 pm
The play is an addition to Salkehatchie Stew, a storytelling initiative of Salkehatchie Arts, and is a community and economic development initiative in partnership with county-based community groups. The goal of Salkehatchie Stew is to gather and preserve stories from people connected with the five Salkehatchie Counties. These stories are then merged to produce performances which showcase the blending of both the history and the culture of our region into one, while showcasing unique qualities of each county.
This year, in addition to the play, Salkehatchie Arts is partnering with local groups to sponsor historical tours in each county from 10:00 to 2:00 on the Saturday of each production.
Tickets will be $10 for each tour; tickets for the play will be $10 for adults and $7 for students for each performance. Group packages are available.
