Hampton and Jasper County firefighters and EMS units responded to an automobile accident involving a 15-passenger van possibly overturned on Interstate 95 in Yemassee around 3 p.m. Monday. According to reports from the scene no helicopter was needed, but at least 12 people were being transported to local hospitals for treatment, including several children. Colleton County EMS has also been called in, and because Hampton County EMS units are stretched thin, they are prepared to have Allendale County units standing by to answer calls in Hampton County if needed.
