First Byline:

MONDAY, JAN. 23 - The Hampton School District 1 Board decided the future of longtime Wade Hampton High School baseball coach Steve Kemmerlin tonight, voting 4-1 to end his coaching career at WHHS at the end of the 2011-12 school year, while his duties as athletics director can continue. Kemmerlin and supporters expressed their disappointment and pondered their next steps, while Board member Hannah Priester, who cast the only vote in opposition, said that she "voted her heart." i just don't understand the rationale behind this.  what a dumb move.

Coach

If there is a concern about the athletics department, that it "lacked leadership" and "change was needed", why would Coach Kemmerlin be released of his duties as baseball coach and not Athletic Director? The Athletic Director heads the Athletics Department not the baseball coach.  Hampton District One has two schools with an athletic department, what's the purpose of having a district athletic director when you have an AD at both schools?

rationale: someone wants more playing time for a family member.....and someone else has already picked out a new ball coach!!!!  how can citizens in hampton county let certain people run their small town!! it's sickening!!!!  makes me glad i live in a big city!!!!  people of hampton county schools had better ask themselves who is next on the 'list'???  at least one person on the board stood up for an outstanding coach and community leader, thank you Hannah!!!!  to everyone one else on that board, hope you are able to sleep well at night!!!

To the Board Members: This is election year!

This sounds familiar

I know why this seems so familiar.  Maybe it is because the samething happened to Coach Hill.  They fired him because some parents thought their kids where better than the coach.  We ended up with a bunch of hot shot coaches who still could not get the "kids" the football scholarship the parents thought they deserved.

I have been reading the

I have been reading the comments about our community high school and it doesn't seem to be what it used to be.  What's up with Wade Hampton officials getting rid of things that have been around for so long; for example:  Coach Kemmerlin, oak trees, decent teacher pay, fair grades, discipline, respect and fair play?  Thanks to Jacob Runkle for a first step taken in the right direction with his petition.  We can't let it stop there!  Any ideas community? What can WE do???

Coach K/Runkle

Finally, someone brave enough to take action!!!  Go Runkle!!! I sure would like to hear what the "other" side of the story is, that caused a good person to be released from his coaching duties!!!!  People should keep this incident in mind during the next election!!!!
