Family loses mobile home to fire

A local family was left homeless after a fire destroyed their mobile home Friday night.
Firefighters from Varnville, Cummings, Yemassee, and Nixville responded to a structure fire reported around 8:59 p.m. Friday and found a single wide mobile home on 132 Glover Road outside of Varnville completely destroyed by fire.
According to Hampton County Fire Department reports, the home was owned by Swandela Glover, but was occupied by another family, a mother and at least two children.
The American Red Cross responded to aid the family.
The fire was believed to be caused by an electrical short.
EMS reports
While secondary highways within the county were free of major accidents last week, Interstate 95 was busy with emergency vehicles responding to traffic collisions. Around 11:59 a.m. on Sunday Hampton County EMS, along with units from the Yemassee and Cummings fire departments, responded to an accident involving a vehicle pulling a boat near mile marker 40.
Three passengers were transported by EMS from one vehicle: the driver, Robert Franks, 48, and two passengers, Abigail Franks, 8, and Sarita Franks, 46, all of Pelion were transported to Hampton Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.
Three people in the second car involved in the accident were not transported.
Around 4:45 p.m. on Saturday emergency officials also responded to a report of a vehicle pulling a motor home involved in a single-vehicle crash in a wooded shoulder off mile marker 35. According to EMS reports there were four people involved in the accident but no one was transported.
Around 2:50 p.m. last Thursday EMS and the Yemassee Fire Department responded to a report that a tractor trailer blew a tire, which struck a second vehicle on I-95.
Anthony G. DeAngelo, 57, of Dazell, SC was the driver of the 18-wheeler and was transported to HRMC. Dianna Baker, 40, address unknown, was driver of car that was hit by tire but was not transported.
