Officers with the Hampton County Sheriff's Office were involved in two separate vehicle pursuits which led to three total arrests during Operation Everywhere on March 15, according to a HCSO press release.
Two people were arrested following the first pursuit, including Kevin Pierce, 29, of 13 River Road, Yemassee, and Antwoine M. Crosson, 28, of 7 Ocelet Trail, Columbia, S.C.
Pierce was charged with failure to stop for a blue light, simple possession of marijuana, driving under suspension, and disobedience to a police officer. Crosson was charged with simple possession of marijuana.
The first pursuit occurred around 6:25p.m. during a traffic safety checkpoint as Pierce was ordered by officers to pull to the side of Ram Horn Road because he stated he did not possess a driver's license. Pierce then fled the area at a high rate of speed. As officer's pursued him, Pierce's vehicle left the roadway on Lowndes Lake Road, losing control and spinning around, striking the front end of one of the officer's patrol cars. The officer was not injured during the incident. Pierce then continued to drive his vehicle on to Yemassee Highway before the vehicle stopped near the intersection of Yemassee Highway and Porter Road near Cummings. Pierce attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was quickly apprehended. Crosson, a passenger in the vehicle, was also detained. Upon search of the vehicle, a small amount of what was believed to be marijuana was found.
A Luray man was arrested following the second pursuit. John Sanders Jr., 50, of 613 Old Orangeburg Road, Luray, was arrested and charged with improper turn, driving under suspension third offense, and failure to stop for a blue light.
The second vehicle pursuit occurred around 9:15p.m. after an officer attempted to stop Sanders for an improper turn. Sanders had turned right on to Sumpter Street, not stopping for officers and continuing on to Risher Street. The pursuit continued on to H. Smart Road before Sanders attempted to make a sharp left turn on to Old Orangeburg Road, losing control of his vehicle and striking several trees. Sanders was not hurt in the accident and was arrested.
