Allendale police officer pleads guilty to stealing money from evidence locker
ALLENDALE - A former Allendale Police Officer pleaded guilty this week to stealing almost $5,000 from the department's evidence locker.
Juan Nevarez pleaded guilty Monday to one count of misconduct in office and one count of grand larceny in connection with the theft of $4,680 in July 2006, said the 14th Circuit Solicitor's Office.
Judge Perry Buckner sentenced Nevarez to one year in prison, a sentence that will be suspended when Nevarez completes two years of probation.
The case was investigated by the State Law Enforcement Division, and was prosecuted by the Fourteenth Circuit Solicitor's Office Western Career Criminal Prosecution Team. The team consists of three attorneys who prosecute Allendale, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper County cases against repeat offenders in addition to cases in which a public official is accused of breaching the public's trust.
Allendale man pleads guilty to murder
In an unrelated crime, an Allendale man pleaded guilty this week to the June 2009 stabbing death of 26-year-old Wayne "Nip" Dunbar.
Robert Lee Campfield, 31, pleaded guilty Monday to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced by Judge Perry Buckner to 20 years in prison, said the Solicitor's Office.
The case was prosecuted by our office's Western Career Criminal Prosecution Team, which prosecutes cases against repeat offenders in addition to cases against those who commit especially violent crimes or officials charged with breaching the public's trust.

Allendale County Guardian
Is there now no news worthy events in Hampton County that we must read about the happenings in Allendale County? I am sure that there is something better to report on. Maybe another long article about a crime committed in Hampton County such as the Estill woman charged with larceny? My point is there are many stories with in Hampton County that can be reported on and there is no need for the report on an Allendale police officer. Maybe explain why there was and still is not a comment "button" connected to the article written about an elected public offical. Maybe write an article on someone who has retired from the South Carolina National Guard after 40+ years of service to his country, state, and community. Maybe write and article about the teacher who is working for almost nothing but still gives everything he/she can to the students of this county. Maybe one of the local police officers has done something good for the community. Just some suggestions........
Allendale Readers
There are many Guardian readers from Allendale, the paper is sold in Allendale and people in Allendale subscribe to this paper, why should news worthy items from Allendale NOT be included??
Because It's Not Hampton County
I certainly won't pretend to speak for scguy, but he has a point. The Hampton County Guardian, I believe, is supposed to be about Hampton County news and news involving people from Hampton County. It is not supposed to be a newspaper to report news in other counties simply because its readers may live there. If that is the case then the paper should be filled with news from Walterboro, Beaufort, Ridgeland, Columbia, Greenville...I could go on and on.
Sometimes there are.....
Although the article that is being mentioned has nothing really to do with Hampton County, there are times when issues in Allendale County are relevent to Hampton Co. citizens. Some of them are crime related, while others may have to do with economic development (such as jobs coming into or being lost to this area) as well as government issues and such. Let's not beat this to death.
policeman from allendale
It's pretty sad when people have nothing better to do than complain about the HCG writing articles about allendale county. Since after all it is the Hampton paper. Not one person mention the fact that this is just example of the State and County employees getting slaps on their wrist. How one one of the respected, decorated, Officier has been wronged. Yeah right, there no better than any other person that's walks the street. The difference is, they get a slap on the hand. I went to prision for $25.00 in bad checks. 180 days, in Columbia in Prision. 2 Checks one was $11.oo and change, the other was $12.00 and change, the said part was the $12.00 was paid. So I actually went for about $12.00. I wasn't allow to go home to find the check. Now compare a Police Officer, Stealing almost $5000.00 with no prision time. tell me how this is fair in anyway. Oh, I had a 5 yr old at home that I had to leave with other people. Where was my probation? Still worried about Allendale news making it into the Hampton County Guardian. Get a Life, Get a realitity Check. HE STOLE MONEY HE WAS SWORN TO PROTECT.
Justice?
Debbie, I don't know the particulars of your case. Perhaps you should complain to your attorney for not representing you better if you did not receive justice. On the other hand, I wonder how the victims of your crime feel about your serving 180 days in jail. By the way, you didn't go to jail for $12, you went to jail for writing a bad check. And I am afraid I don't know what you are talking about concerning a respected and decorated officer being wronged. I need more details. I certainly don't disagree with you that our law enforcement officers should be held to a higher standard and when they do wrong, justice should come down on them very hard. He should not have gotten probation.
justice?
My comments were not about my time, I spent my time. Stupid and not diberate. My point was how far apart the sentences were. I thought anyone could pick up on that. I guess I was wrong. Point you steal almost $5000.00 how do you get probation? Compaired to $12.00! Children go to DJJ longer for missing school. No I nor my Child went to DJJ for missing school.
