Yemassee police captain indicted
The Captain of the Yemassee Police Department has been indicted by the State Grand Jury for allegedly stealing over $10,000 from the town.
In an indictment filed May 16, Capt. Gregory Alexander was indicted by the State Grand Jury of South Carolina on charges of Official Misconduct in Office, Breach of Trust $10,000 or more, and Breach of Trust less than $1,000.
Alexander is accused of misusing funds seized by the Yemassee Police Department from Feb. 12, 2009 until Jan. 15, 2011, according to the indictment. Specifically, Alexander is also accused of taking for his own use $10,000 in cash seized during a July 14, 2010 traffic stop and $748 seized during a Feb. 12, 2009 traffic stop.
The Town of Yemassee was notified by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division of the indictment on Tuesday afternoon, and on Wednesday Alexander was suspended from duty pending the outcome of the case.
