Help Mary Elizabeth figure out what to wear on race day
Dressed in the spirit of Valentine's Day, and to promote a worthy cause, former Wade Hampton cross country "great" Mary Elizabeth Johns will be running in the Sweetheart Sprint 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Feb. 4.
Mary, a 24-year-old 2005 Wade Hampton High School graduate, was the prodigy of WHHS cross country coach Bert Burch (her stepdad) and was so "great" that during her senior year she finished fourth in the region out of modesty and compassion for the three girls who finished ahead of her.
Since the Olympic committee hasn't come calling yet, Mary has decided to compete in this race, which benefits Relay For Life, despite the fact that she hasn't run a lick in five years, unless you count running to class at USC to beat the tardy bell.
And here's the kicker - Mary has decided to run the entire race wearing one of these two colorful yet ridiculous outfits.
But she needs your help to decide which outfit to wear, so to cast your vote go to http://hamptoncountyguardian.com/polls/which-outfit-should-mary-elizabet... and click on the option you like best. The deadline to vote is Friday, Feb. 3 at 5 p.m.
Read more on this crazy scheme, and on the Sweetheart Sprint, in next week's Guardian and be sure to check out Mary's blogs this week, as she tries to shake off the pound cake pounds and country-cooking calories and begin training for this grueling race. Good luck, Mary Elizabeth!
