HCHS presents ‘Sherman’s March Through The Lowcountry’ on Sept. 7

The Hampton County Historical Society will present the first of its fall series of programs on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Hampton Fire Station. The topic will be the march of General William Tecumseh Sherman and his troops through our South Carolina Lowcounty.

During the winter of 1865, Gen. Sherman and his troops entered the S.C. Lowcountry and Hampton County by crossing the Savannah River below Robertsville and also by entering from Beaufort up through McPhersonville.  Bert Burch, Wade Hampton history teacher, will take his audience with the Union troops and the Confederate soldiers as they entered and moved through our Lowcountry area. His presentation will appeal to Civil War buffs as well as those who are interested in becoming familiar with details of Civil War history in our area.  This will be an opportunity to get the facts and imagine the action.

Enter the fire station through the Third Street West entrance.  Plan to be seated by 7 p.m.  The program is free for Hampton County Historical Society members; for non-members, a donation would be appreciated.
