SMOKING AT HOLLY STREET
SMOKING AT HOLLY STREET
Submitted by melongirl on Sat, 05/15/2010 - 12:30pm.
I have children playing ball at Holly Street and am over there several times a week. I usually leave upset over the fact that adults just light up cigarettes right in front of the children. Some do have enough respect to walk over near the trashcans, and some just light up right where they sit. So unfair that we have to sit and watch this and inhale their smoke.
If you aren't allowed to smoke at football games, and soccer games, then why at the baseball games??

while I agree that it is
while I agree that it is discourteous to smoke around the children it is outdoors... I don't see the rest of it as an issue, and no I'm not a smoker. I mean you're outdoors, are we to ban smoking except in the privacy of your home/car?
Also Boyles Soccer Field is private property and they can regulate that, The school facilities are school property and they can regulate it as well... the Holly St facilities however are town property and as such they are public property and that's why people can smoke there.
But I see your point.
I agree....
I am a smoker and also a parent. I fully agree that smoking should not be done at public ball games even if they are outside. I do not smoke in my home. I take the nasty habit outside. I do so to protect the family members who do not smoke and also to protect the interior of my home. It upsets me to see people lighting up anywhere they want. There is a tax increase on ciggarettes coming on July 1st. Part of the money from the tax will go to preventing children from smoking. If "ADULTS" would restrain from sticking it in their faces all the time the tax might not have had to gone up so high. I ,as a smoker, know that I would not hold someone near a fire making them breath the smoke so why smoke close to other people. Smokers have to think back to the first time they ever lit up. It burns your throat, smells bad and can give an allergic reaction. People who do not smoke don't like that. Also think of the people who are quitting smoking. A ciggarette stinks to someone who has never smoked but smells so good to one who is quitting. Smoking is a habit than can be broken. I will soon work on that myself, as I am not going to pay anymore for a pack. When smoking was banned from grocery stores and other public places smokers were outraged yet we learned to deal with it. So smoke in YOUR car, YOUR home or YOUR yard but please don't smoke in public places were others are gathering and some don't smoke.
