One of the places in Hampton County that I first fell in love with was Lake Warren State Park. I made my first trip there for the Family Fun Day to kick off the Watermelon Festival last year, shortly after I moved here.
Now, I'm not a majorly outdoorsy girl (For one, I don't glisten, I sweat; and second, I don't tan, I fry,) but I do appreciate the beauty of nature, and God certainly gave Lake Warren an abundance of that.
Don't tell the people who oversee my mileage reports, but I often drive pretty far out of my way to check out Lake Warren at sunset. I just don't think there's a more lovely sight around here.
Our editor, Michael DeWitt, had a great idea to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the state park system by hosting an event at Lake Warren. After having to put him off for months (there was work to be done and weather to consider, afterall) he finally convinced me the time to invite you all to join us for A Day By The Lake is now.
So consider this your formal invitation. We want to see you Saturday. The events begin with a guided nature walk at 9:30 a.m. We'll have an award presentation at 11 a.m., and a bike rodeo at 12:30 p.m.
There will be plenty of fun for your family. And if you see a bright red woman drenched in sweat, be sure to tell me hello.
