Blogs, Members, emails & buddy list

I have been a subscriber to the Hampton Guardian since I moved to Hampton. The paper has gone through many changes. The website also has gone through many changes since it was first put online. I've enjoyed reading and responding to the articles that have been online.

I've written to the "letter to editor" on several occasions since all the new changes with nothing ever printed or even responded to. I've sent emails about problems on the site and still nothing has been responded to. There isn't a "webmaster" to submit problems to so where does the email go? Is news@hamptoncountyguardian.com a real email account that is actually read?

The members which I guess are also those you'd like to keep in touch with, how do they know you've requested to be on their buddy list? When you go to your personal user account there's nothing that says "pending". I thought that I was pretty computer literate but I don't seem to understand the new format to the online Hampton County Guardian.

Since I've written to the guardian without responce I thought perhaps that someone out there might help me understand how to submit events, letters to the editor, photos for Memorial Day & Veteran's Day, and how to know what the buddy list is suppose to do.

Confused but not giving up my quest to be a voice heard.

Thanks for your help

Debbi, The Buddy List is

Debbi,

The Buddy List is just a way for you to keep track of what people you know are posting on the site. I haven't done much with it so I can't tell you all of its functionalities, but I do know it also allows for messaging that is basically like email and that is not published to www.hamptoncountyguardian.com.

As for the other concerns you have, I have sent an email to our developers to ask about the Letters to the Editor, etc. I didn't realize there was a problem until it was pointed out when you emailed us about it. Thanks for taking the time to do that!

Last week you emailed us about the profile photo option. I emailed you back the developer's response to your problem. Perhaps you didn't get it. I'll paste it again here, in case you still need that information.

Thanks for using our site. And yes, news@hamptoncountyguardian.com is our main email address. It's still the best way to get ahold of us.

The 'question mark' photo of course shows up whenever someone has uploaded a user photo of their own.  I've just changed my user photo and it worked instantly without an issue.

Could you try and change your own user picture on your end and let me know if it works for you straightaway?  A good suggestion may be to have user skip the 'delete' photo step, and to simply browse to their new photo, and then submit the new changes by pressing the submit button at the bottom of the page [without deleting their old photo first].  That would essentially overwrite whatever photo is currently uploaded for that user. Please let me know if that helps.  If need be, I'd be happy to upload the photo on her behalf, and then look into solving the larger website issue in the near future if the problem persists.

As I stated in a earlier email of which I never get a response from the Guardian I'm pretty computer savvy and have my own website but there were problems. I did all of this like 6 times but the photo I want is now up.

It would be really good just to make replies to those who send emails to news@hamptoncountyguardian.com. Not once since it's existance have I ever received a reply. Not once in a year has the Guardian posted any letter I've submitted to the editor. But that's ok.

I would like to see the newspaper have a better look and print that is a little darker. The paper tries to have two sections but there's not enough news to do that. It saddens me that the paper has lost some of it's "personal contact" now. Use to be welcome to see the public and get opinions but that's not the case now or at least that's my personal opinion.

Thank you
