I guess some people need to mortgage their home like they claimed they would do to get this school started. How could they tell the public there was going to be a charter school and didn't even have it approved! Was it a lie and con from the start? Just asking. Can't count your chickens before they hatch.

WOW!!
Wow! That comment was a little harsh. I don't believe that it was a lie to start with. There is a board of dedicated individuals who are fighting to have another option for education for youth in our area and state. In their recent articles they never once claimed that the charter school had officially been approved. However, they did use words like "if" and "when." I really hope that there is something that can be done to get this school approved!! It is needed!
Um not exactly... things
Um not exactly... things like this happen all the time. That Title Max that opened up in the old KFC building completely remodeled the building and was 100% ready for business before they even applied for a business license.
There are many possible reasons why the charter may have been denied. It may still happen but they will have to make some changes to their designs/plans.
I guess we'll just have to wait until Thursday to see why exactly they got denied... they can always re-apply.

Also seeing as how this is an approval issue I don;t see how mortgaging homes to raise money for funding and other financial issues would be much of a help.
It's called FAITH...........Justaparent2
I am guessing that you are not a faith believer? The Bible talks about Faith :: God desires that we call those things that be not, as though they were. (Romans 4:17). Let me break it down to you "YOU HAVE TO SEE THINGS IN THE SPIRITUAL REALM, BEFORE YOU SEE IT IN THE NATURAL." Maybe you should try to read up on the word, go to Revelation Ministries or a Bible Teaching/Believing Church and learn all about the word of God. Stop thinking that people are always lying. The bible also says so as a man thinketh so is he (Proverbs 23:7). So that tells me that you must be a liar. I will keep you in prayer. You should be glad that someone is trying to make a difference in the community, and help the future generation out. Instead of knocking the idea, why not try to see what you can do to help. But then again your words speak for you. That's why you can't get ahead in life. And please don't try to challenge me because the WORD will back me up 100 percent.
It is Faith!
You are so right! It is all about FAITH! That's why the academy was not approved. You are not the only one praying. Don't think everyone believe the charter school is the best thing for the "community." If parents and community do their part to improve the local schools, we wouldn't be having this discussion!
Actually the best thing to
Actually the best thing to do for our local schools is to stop cutting funding and salaries. Throwing money at a lot of things does not work but you would be surprised how it works with the education system. However it seems that our children's education and future is slipping further and further away from the "what's important" list because everyone is trying to cut budgets for some reason.
The problem you have here is with schools you happen to have school boards that manage everything and don't really listen to a lot of input the community and parents have when it comes to matters outsode of school policies. If they did you would probably still have that one principle the parents seem to like so much still a principle.
I keep seeing budget cuts everywhere... but I don't see where the money that's being taken away is going as taxes and prices on everything seem to keep going up.

Please tell me what the parents need to do, and what the community need to do?????? They voted for the board members. At the end of it all the Board decides, but maybe you know differently. And you need to re-read your first post, before lashing back. If you say don't count your chickens before the eggs hatch, that means you don't have faith so it is hard for me to believe you pray. You said it was a lie or scam if I am correct?
I guarantee you the school will be open. The state already approved it. Please do your homework, because right now it is incomplete. They will have the opportunity to re-apply. Have you ever heard of try and try again?
Are you kidding?
When was the last time you been to the schools, walked the halls, sat in on a class? Do you know what the real issues are in the schools? I do because I am there regularly! You don't see most parents at the school or any event unless it's a sports event. When Estill schools have an event and it's not sports or graduation, you barely have parents there. In contrast Hampton school events can be standing room only! Until the parents and not just a few of them get more involved it will be the same old thing. What children learn at home they bring to school! Even a charter school need parental Involvement. The school board members need to do their part just like anyone else but they can't do it all. They have to be held accountable just like the parents, teachers, administration and everyone else who really care about what is going on! Their term of service need to be limited just like the governor or the president. I know exactly what I posted. You need to read it again. Like I said, you and the supporters of the charter school are not the only one's who are praying. I asked if it was a lie or scam? I didn't say it was. Just because you are praying for something don't mean God will grant it! He knows all and you don't. But of course you are a biblical scholar aren't you and you should know that. Frankly, I don't care what you believe I do because you don't have a heaven nor hell to put me in. You sound like a judgmental so called Christian to me. The school just might open people gamble their money away everyday!
Statewide Charter School District Snob Virgin Johnson academy
We are all disappointed, but we know what Mr. Johnson tried to do for children in this area was not a lie but work to give them a better future. In my book he is a hero for stepping out and trying to set up a charter school to help our children. So many of us complain about what’s going on in our schools but none of us have had the courage to put ourselves out there. Mr. Johnson is a retired teacher who made all segment of the community see a better future for their children. So The Virgin Johnson Academy School Board don’t deserve criticism but support for what they have tried do. I would still mortgage my home if it would make a difference. In my reading of the charter school law, they can still reapply, but why should they. The charter school district is the one who did something wrong. Virgin Johnson Academy is approved by the state; according to the charter school law after the state approval a school, it is suppose to be admitted to the statewide charter school district. Why weren’t they admitted? Because the Statewide Charter School District didn’t want any more poor black kids in the district. Whatever the statewide charter school district explanation, I know it will be a lie. The truth is that Virgin Johnson Academy is approved by the state and should have been admitted.
What!
Statewide Charter School District don't want anymore "poor black kids in the district." Now that's just crazy and don't make any sense!
