This year will be a rebuilding year for the Wade Hampton softball team.
Last year's stars graduated, and the Red Devils are without pitchers Amber Hiers and Kandyce Ranew and catcher Diamond Donehue. They don't have Nikki Kollar or Kayla Freeman either. They only have one returning senior, Meaghan Smith.
"They are very young and inexperienced," said coach Cassandra Bolden.

Estill girls ousted by H'ville again

First Byline:

Everything appeared to be working for Estill. Against Hardeeville in Monday's girls Class A Lower State semifinal playoff game at Beaufort High, the Gators led for three quarters, made clutch 3-pointers and their 2-3 zone slowed the Hurricanes' offense.
But late in the fourth quarter the lead evaporated.
What went wrong?
"(No.s) 31 and 5 just started killing us," Estill coach Cecil Jenkins said.
Hardeeville's Jomanda Smalls (No. 31) and Shantireya Rivers (No. 5) took over late in the game and led Hardeeville to a 52-45 victory.

Estill girls out of playoffs

Top-seeded Estill was knocked out of the Class A girls basketball playoffs Monday night, falling 52-45 to No. 1 seed Estill at Beaufort High.
The Hurricanes advance to Saturday's Lower State final at The Citadel. They will face the winner of the Allendale-Fairfax vs. C. E. Murray matchup.
With just minutes left in the game, Estill held a 37-31 lead, but Hardeeville went on a 14-7 run to take the lead - its first since leading 2-1 in the first quarter.

Lady Gators eliminated in playoffs

With Hampton County's postseason hopes resting solely on the shoulders of the Estill girls basketball team, the Lady Gators met with disappointment last night in Beaufort as they fell to the Hardeeville Hurricanes 52-45 in the third round of the state playoffs.

All of the other local varsity teams had already ended their postseason chances. The Wade Hampton boys were ousted from the Class AA boys basketball playoffs Saturday night, losing 74-60 at Mullins.
